'cold callers'
Tonight at about 9.30 our doorbell was rang quite impatiently and a young man was standing there. He had pretty good English and came out with some story about his mother having had a stroke and he was collecting money for her treatment. When my husband, who was a bit rattled by the rapid ringing of the doorbell said no, he got a bit aggressive but did leave. When I looked down the road there appeared to be 2 of them walking towards the main road at Green Holiday Village. Is this what it's coming to? We are only4 houses and only us had any outside light on.], but it would seem we were singled out, maybe by our English name on the postbox outside. Gate will be locked from now on.

Re: 'cold callers'
It says he was asking on behalf of his mother, but with a minimum wage and no welfare system in place this will probably increase.
Foreigners who have settled here are lucky with their pensions / incomes in sterling even though prices have gone up but what about the increased foreign labour their rent is probably in sterling or they live in some hell hole. The youth here what prospect do they have unless their family is wealthy, houses are well beyond the means of the general worker.
the credit card bubble will burst.

Bernie, sorry to say even what you recommend to ask to see as evidence is no guarantee as we have discovered after handing over cash at the door for over a year to a young man who seemed very genuine. Sadly what looks to us as genuine, sometimes isn't. Some locals have warned me not to give money to people standing outside supermarkets as they are not legal, but I don't now if this is true or not.
