in catalkoy I don't think so we have had customers where their standing order has stopped and the bill just keeps mounting. Normally then negotiation can be made on the interest acquired in the unpaid period.

You don't have prepay smart meters yet then, I take it.

they used to take the meter but people would reconnect so i assume its best to do this way, can't sell a house without all bills paid plus if they rent it the tenants can't pay what they use as they will be asked about the back pay. If water is used they will call on you and can issue a letter stating this

Oh well I just felt sorry for the owners faced with a huge bill if they return.

A pre-payment meter would have prevented the problem... so why "thank goodness"?

not necessarily in Bellapais I had one with a -108 and water still coming in where a ball cock had failed, it was only when I put my glasses on I realised how much debit it had on it.

It must have been faulty or very different from ours in Esentepe... which will only allow 1 ton on negative balance and quite sensibly the bele will not allow top-up if the local charges are overdue... so nobody can run up massive debts.

I'm really impressed with the smart water meter we have - it's just the increased price of the water that is a dampener (sorry). As has been stated by Groucho, it might have stopped a tenant taking liberties.

smart meters are great if you live here, great if you have a manager who checks and thinks how much water will be used in the week but a blinking pain when over the phone you are trying to explain to a holiday maker why they have no water and have created air in the system. even trying to explain how to top up the meter seems a difficult charge.
the other thing if you do not use a lot of water quite a few in the offices, lapta being an exception they insist you buy 10 ton of water when trying to pay the monthly rates. hence when the mentioned ballcock failed there was over 240 units as credit on it at the beginning of the season and the - at the end.
I hope catalkoy keep to their promise why change something that aint broke and we in catalkoy keep paying our bills to ensure the old meters stay

Hey Deniz1 water meters being removed from 3 properties in catalkoy this morning, a very pleasant surprise as I assume it is non payment as I know one bypasses the meter when he is here. They did call out and knock on the doors before removing the meter.

snd1966. Delighted to read this. I'm fed up of people (sadly 100% local in my case, although I'm sure there must be others) saying how easy it is to circumvent the systems. It's almost like a right of passage, learning all the "tricks"
