Gas Permit office
Has anyone had to renew their Gas Permit lately? Is the office in Girne (near Land Registry) still doing it and does anyone know the opening times please? Last year it was a shambles as the fee had gone up but no one knew what it was, and we went about three times before being able to pay it!

Re: Gas Permit office
Based on my experience last year I would wait until after the 1st of Jan-it was easy then-no waiting and a five minute job.

Re: Gas Permit office
We got ours on New Years Eve last year, about half an hour before they closed but as this is a Sunday this year that's a non-runner. Technically you are supposed to renew before the end of the year but it's only a small fine if you don't. I'll probably try next Friday, but will take my sense of humour with me!

They usually don't know the price until January so we all end up with a small fine, it's laughable really but also fraustrating.

A question from the back of the class -
What is a Gas Permit and why is it necessary?

Re: Gas Permit office
Apparently, if you have a liquid gas storage tank, it is subject to regulations relating to size and siting, and a (renewable annually?) permit showing compliance is required (I don't have one, so I don't speak from experience... ).
However look here and you may gain some more understanding...

Thank you everyone, might take a chance on Friday next but otherwise January - they've probably changed things anyway and you now don't need one = Merry Christmas!

Re: Gas Permit office
Must admit that I have had gas deliveries over the last 2 months and not been asked for my permit at all. So it may be the initial panic has passed.sammydavis wrote:Thank you everyone, might take a chance on Friday next but otherwise January - they've probably changed things anyway and you now don't need one = Merry Christmas!

They will catch up with you eventually, we got away with it for ten years but got collared eventually. It's not expensive to go legal and wasn't much hassle for us. You only need to worry if the position of your tank doesn't comply.

I went in December and the supervisor told me to come back in January and no fine if paid within that month......
