Re: Easter Eggs
It is now hard to find Easter eggs that have the word Easter on them over here in Britain. It seems Easter is a dirty word now over here!

Re: Easter Eggs
Obviously you haven't been shopping for a while. I've just been in Asda, Morrison's and Lidl-Easter Eggs everywhere-with the word EASTER all over them.Brend wrote:It is now hard to find Easter eggs that have the word Easter on them over here in Britain. Another attempt to blame those pesky Muslims stopping us from enjoying our religious festivals?
Internet is full of these fake news stories designed to stir up resentment.

The one I laugh at is the one about crosses having been removed from Hot Cross Buns!Rosehillgirl wrote:Obviously you haven't been shopping for a while. Rosehillgirl
I do go shopping and being as you dont know me I will tell you that i have quite a few of those pesky Muslims (as YOU called them ) as friends. I do not even think it has anything to do with Muslims why easter isnt on (I will say a LOT of the easter eggs) I believe it is political correctness gone mad and it is the do gooders and not the Muslim community to blame. I believe that the do gooders and political correctness always make any situation worse.
nice chatting to you!!!!

Re: Easter Eggs
Someone needs to have a word with Tesco!!
They have no right to use 'Easter' on their chocolate eggs!!
The shops here in the UK are full of eggs with Easter plastered all over them. Big signs all over the stores about Easter offers. Adverts on TV about Easter. Easter is everywhere.
Believe what you will.

Don't buy 'em. Write to the manufacturers and complain.
It's Political Correctness gone mad.
I've never met anyone of any race or religion who was offended by us celebrating and naming our own (Christian) religious festivals - and would we dream of asking them to do the same?
Why (and from where) do these organisations get the idea that it's the right thing to do? ? ?

Re: Easter Eggs
I would deplore any reduction and/or removal of the term "Easter" IF this were so - but out of interest, I 'googled' (horrible word! ) "1960's easter eggs" and selected images - it's quite interesting (and informative) how many images for 60's, 70' and 80's actually show or do not show the word "Easter"....

As it seems to me rather than this reflecting a change of the 'tyranny of political correctness' in recent years I suggest it reflects a purely commercial response to the reality of an ongoing and steady decline, by choice, of the place and role of Christianity in the daily lives of 10's of millions of ordinary British families and people since the end of WW2. For me the 'recent' change has been not so much the rise of 'political correctness' but instead a rise of a fake, hysterical and largely hypocritical misplaced outrage. A kind of 'lashing out' as an expression of a multitude of frustrations, definitely felt but generally poorly understood or articulated.
Honestly how many of those 'outraged' at the lack of the word 'Easter' on chocolate eggs even go to church on anything like a regular basis ? How many place the tenets of the new testament at the centre of their daily lives and strive to live according to those tenets on a day to day basis ? I would be outraged at any attempts to prohibit anyone who wished to do these things from being able to do so but getting outraged over the lack of the word Easter on chocolate eggs is to me bullshit. As a child in the 70's Easter eggs were already in reality entirely divorced from the celebration of the resurrection of Christ pretty much as Christmas was and is from celebrating Christ's birth and not as a result of 'political correctness' but as a result of millions of ordinary British peoples choice.

Re: Easter Eggs
From us, from the great millioned mass and averaged of 'us', our behaviours and specifically our agency as consumers. Certainly not from some secret cabal of subversive bearded Marxist (lecturers?) huddled in dark rooms in Islington hatching devious plots to subvert the freedom and will of the 'ordinary British man and woman'.Keithcaley wrote: Why (and from where) do these organisations get the idea that it's the right thing to do? ? ?

Re: Easter Eggs
When did I last turn the other cheek ? When did I last love my neighbour ? When did I last see the half dead and beaten traveller on the side of the road and act as the Smaratain did rather than as the Kohen or the Levite did ? When did I last honour my mother and father ? When did I last render unto God the things that are God's ?
If Jesus were to come today and walk the chocolate egg laden isles of a modern day Tesco mega store do you think he would be outraged because many of the eggs did not bear the word 'Easter' on them? Oh I think he would be mightily angered and righteously outraged but not at the lack of the word 'Easter' on many of the eggs on display. Somehow I think his outrage would be somewhat more fundamental than simply the lack of the word Easter on the hundreds and thousands and tens of thousands and millions of chocolate eggs being sold and consumed allegedly in the name of his resurrection.

Re: Easter Eggs
It reminds me of people who decry the fact they can’t use the word gay now to indicate that they are happy. The fact that they had never previously used the word in any context gets swept under the carpet somewhat.

Re: Easter Eggs
Back to the original post, checked Supreme today and there were a few bags of medium sized eggs. Sounds like Tempo, probably any branch, is the place to try.

Re: Easter Eggs
Didn't expect this query to result in a debate about Easter Eggs and Muslim sensibilities etc!
Just like to say that I got a Galaxy Egg, full of small Galaxy Eggs, from Tempos Catalkoy where there is a pretty good selection. Nothing in Sah or Supreme.
Thanks again to those who advised on where to find them.
