Urgent Advice / Help needed

A friend of my daughter applied for and got the job that was advertised on the jobs section in April. http://www.kibkomnorthcyprusforum.com/v ... 42&t=42217 He is British age 20 and has lived here the majority of his life. He was promised a work permit and his employers took his UK passport to process it when he started in May. Despite this promise no work permit was ever issued. A few weeks ago he went to the immigration office in Nicosia to check about his passport and was subsequently fined for working without a work permit. He had one at his previous job which he had to give up. His employer never issued him with a permit and and he has now left the job. He was never issued with a contract of employment but had to sign a statement when he left not to divulge any information about the company. He doesn't have the funds to pay the fine which is about 4,000tl and each day that he doesn't pay the fine it increasing by 100tl a day. He has been to immigration to plead his case but it has fallen on deaf ears and has been told now that he needs to apply for residency. He is at his wits end. He has been to the police who have told him to find a lawyer. All very well if you can afford one!

Does any one have any advice or can they point him in the right direction?

Sadly this is becoming a frequent occurrence, Its promises, promises with nothing at the end. I know from personal experience that it is a long winded, complicated and fairly expensive procedure and many prospective employers either cannot afford to go down this road or can't be bothered. I hope that immigration are not holding on to the PP, if they are then it will be to stop him leaving and not paying the fine. Legal advice is all I can suggest. Good luck.

His Accountant at his previous job has managed to resolve the problem. Not sure of the details but his fine has been rescinded. Thanks

So was it The Avenue Hotel that didn't arrange a work permit?
