Purchased in south, bringing over to north - regs?
Good morning
We are considering purchasing a fairly large home furnishing item, a wood framed mirror, in the south to bring over to the north.
We will be able to have a receipt of purchase and most probably will be able to get a "Made in the RoC" sticker attached to the item - for what that's worth.
Looking for advice and information as to what the current regulations or rules are for bringing a south Cyprus manufactured home furnishing item into the north please.

As far as I know you have 2 choices either smuggle it & hope for the best or you have to get an import licence before you bring the item over from the Gov Dept in Lefkosa, the duty used to to be 30%.
Maybe someone can help with the scenario of declaring it at the border as you bring it over I do not have experience of this.

If it is under the Green Line amount 135 Eurus? Certified locally made... there should be no issue.

The €135 allowance is for personal items only (eg clothes) it does not apply to furniture

We have brought house old items in the past to the North...lamps.. garden storage etc in the South..never had any problem bringing over the border.
However so much choice arriving in the North now, enables us to buy all now in the North.

Have never had an issue , If stopped , have always been honest and got away with it , but as ever depends on the official on duty that day.

The restriction on household items does not apply to those 'made in Cyprus' I have been told.ozankoys wrote:The €135 allowance is for personal items only (eg clothes) it does not apply to furniture

That is interesting although what you would get made there that you could not have made here is a bit of a puzzle?
