apparently in karmi the average price for a load of wood has gone from 450/550 to 1200/1500 there answer as to why is they only want to charge in sterling now and its its something to do with the exchange rate yeah right

That is over £70 up on last years costs. When will they realize that not every one here has £ and most of the ones that do are not rich. We into a shop to purchase cat litter and it have gone up by over 85% in the last week.

well I've just seen that apparently petrols gone up yet again....

The rise in petrol price is justifiable and inevitable it looks like the rise in firewood has been overdone but then perhaps the supply is limited as the population is growing here and more people might be using a logs because of electruc .when you buy anything now you really dont know what to expect .

With petrol at least we are a lot cheaper still than the uk i read its £1.29 per litre herevits 70 to 80 p range im too lazy to work out exact price !

Bought a glass showe cubicle yeserday for 840 tl from a shop in magusa and they hadnt increased the price from a month ago . Plus they only charged me 60 tl extra to send someone to fit it .it got delivered today tomorrow someones coming out to fit it . Whats 60 tl ? About £7 imagine someone coming on a call out to fit a shower cubicle in the uk for £7,!

It's amazing a few weeks ago when the excrement hit the fan I posted about a certain yapi market putting a 25% surcharge on everything. The thread was locked and anyone who wanted to name and shame should register with Soner. Now there seems to be a lot of it about (MM etc) and it has become the norm. How times change.

Jimm, consider the possibility that the Lemar chain is the biggest, with the highest turnover, and may be having to buy new stock at higher prices before other supermarkets are forced to do so.

Jonnie, MM have staff regularly checking threads about their services, and use the forum to answer queries/problems. They simply have to report a post and it will be dealt with appropriately.

So you obviously support Lemar, I can tell you I have a lot of friends that no longer set foot over there doorstep and the more that do that the better.

Being the biggest certainly, in this case, is not the best.

How big is a "Load" these days? I have a "Pile" of firewood - can't tell what sort it is but it is very dry, some of it is light some of it is heavy - I can't use it because it is far too big for my wood stove but could be cut down to use in a fireplace if you have a good axe and need the exercise! Will try to load a couple of pictures later but my phone not talking to my network at the moment so can't get at them. Can't get the picture to shrink enough to post - working on a Mac and have not yet figured out how to do it - can send if anyone interested in wood at Catalkoy.

Soner, the prices are ridiculous in the Bestmar for example boxes of Simonvlees wine is 52 lira in Lemar it is 76 lira, in Attakara the same wine is 56 lira, cider prices in Lemar are also approximately 50% higher if they are the biggest then surely they would get a bigger discount, also cider did not come into the Bestmar until after Lemar had put their prices up.

No I do not 'obviously' support Lemar, I usually shop at Erulku, which is near to my home when in Cyprus. However, If they put up their prices then I will fully expect and understand due to the drop in value of the TL. Businesses are adapting to survive the current climate rather than simply ignore and eventually go bust. TC's on a TL wage are in the main the ones that will need to budget very carefully, this is not the first time everything has rocketed in price, they'll simply go on with life, moan a little and eventually wages will increase, as should be expected.

I remember when the Tl was very strong against the GBP ( 1 GBP = 2.17 TL ) and I found on several visits to TRNC that everything seemed rather expensive, nothing we can do, but adapt.

If anybody thinks that some supermarkets / businesses will continue to sell at old prices, then they'll be in for a shock.

Yes, vote with your feet, but be prepared to backtrack when you eventually adapt to the changes.

Andrew4232, good to see you on the forum, hope you are well.
Just wondering, the prices of wood in TRNC vary as to type, I believe Olive is the more expensive. Price difference you quoted seem to me to be inline with drop in TL + cost of increase in fuel for delivery and then possibly increase in wages for the local to deal with the massive price increases within the TRNC. I may be wrong, but trying to understand issues from different angles.

Jimm, simple, buy your wine / goods from the store that sell them cheapest. Eventually, there prices will all be in line with each other, give or take a few tl. At the moment businesses in the TRNC are in "shock", as well as TC's, some Ex-Pats and probably some holiday makers.

Now we, you, everybody dislikes price increases... but it is very hard for SME's to know where else to turn. Some people, it would appear, want have the increased £ but don't want their local suppliers and shops to reflect the poor value of the lira.

The expat community are a drop in the ocean compared to the tsunami overrunning the locals.... Have a thought for plight of others.

Well, there you go then. Nobody interested in wood so I will just pile it up at the side of the road and let all the local passerby's help themselves to it - after all they are the ones suffering most under the crash of the TL and they will be quite happy to swing and axe instead of lift a glass!

Too late buddy, put it outside on the side of the road and the local bottled water delivery guy has taken it away for the winter wood in his house, he did offer to pay for it but with wages the way they are he had it for free. Good deed for the day done and both of us happy, another friend made.
