Empty Effes Bottles

I went to take all my empty Effes beer bottles which I had been collecting for a while to Hür Deniz Market in Alsancak last week as they used to give me a small amount back on them. However this time I was told that they are no longer taking them back unless you exchange a crate like for like. They did ask me if I was running a restaurant due to the large amount....! So had to ditch them all in a bin instead. Is there anywhere that would have recycled them?

We used to take, paper, plastic, metal and GLASS to Sha, but 2 or 3 weeks back a bloke there said "no glass" and you actually have to go into the enclosed bit at the back to get rid of it. Plenty of people seem to be doing this but not sure now whether the store actually take it officially any longer.

I'd take them back but;

1) I'm not sure I could carry them unassisted

2) I worry I'd be judged

why dont you just take them to any outlet that has crates outside & put them in there or any shop will take them why make such a big issue 25 cure 50 100 bottles big deal . Out here its all about are they earning any money out of me . Take the shop over now you have 100 assets then pay the bills & have ready stocks in case you are going to buy something . My wife went down the main street today to get some shoes and other bits they wont take cards only cash & all there is in on the shelf's as when found a pair just that pair & one battery for here phone
There surly is a sign that rescission is on us especially if you cant put some bottles back without wanting money
Thank god we dont deal with you or the game would be up

Took, metal, paper and plastic to Sah today. The rear area was firmly closed off so no recycling of glass there any longer it appears.

That is disappointing to hear. Is this a temporary measure or permanent?

Where else can you recycle? (East of Girne)

Trigger, sorry I can't help you. The main store Manager was not available to speak to me and yes it is very disappointing, ended up bringing glass back home.

Cheers.

This country really needs to step up its game in terms of recycling.

Yes I'm sure you are correct Soner. A few months back when it was possible to get into the rear of the Store, I stuck a few bags of glass bottles next to some others and a workman actually said that there was no recycling of glass in the North, but rather than load them back into the car he said to leave them. I've ben a couple of times since and left some, but obviously now its not possible. Into the bin they will have to go from now on I guess.

To be fair many Councils in the UK no longer recycle glass. I imagine because of expense. Being green cost money.

Really? Didn’t know that. When I was back in the UK last month we stopped in a rental property and you needed a degree to work out what went in what recycle box.

When in North Cyprus I started to drink effes from tins rather than bottles as tin wastage takes up less space. Not sure if it’s in my head or not but it tastes different to bottles as in not as nice. Having said that mind, I tend not to notice the difference after the fourth or fifth one.

If I drink it from the bottle slower then I won't get as many empties? Looks like I will have to recycle them myself?

I think it was better when you could take them back to the Off Licence and get a penny back for each of them...................................and then climb the gate at the back and get them back and take them the next week as well!
