UK Taxman
For some reason the UK taxman is pestering me for a 'TIN' code to apparently show that I am paying taxes here; as far as I can gather the TRNC doesn't issue such codes. Am I right?
Thanks

Whilst I love Groucho's post, it would appear that your Tax man believes you to be in the south of Cyprus, if they require a TIN number. See Link https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/t ... untry.html

Re: UK Taxman
I went through this 'saga' in 2017, and it took several letters & phone calls to explain why the TRNC does not issue TINs.
I was told that the only way around this was to get the TRNC tax people to send me a letter (officially noted) stating they were not interested in me, and thus did not require a TIN.
Unfortunately they did not know what a 'TIN' was, and said that each tax department would have to sign such a form, and it could take months. When i explained my situation to the Tax office (to get the ball rolling), and stated i was retired here & not working etc. and had no official standing, I was told that such a letter could not be issued.
Further correspondence to the UK taxman explaining all this, ended with a note on my file, as to what transpired. I was also told that other ex-pats had also queried this anomaly, and that it would be clarified in future.
Obviously - they still haven't got their act together. Perhaps when/if the UK leaves the EU things might change....!

Re: UK Taxman
I was reading an article in the Telegraph yesterday about a very sophisticated computer system the tax man is using to spot those avoiding tax, especially off shore accounts.
