Is anyone else having problems with their internet since the outage on Thursday?
I'm in Lapta and on multimax and the signal is up and down like a yo yo.

In a word...

NO!

Your issue may be due to your dish/router/laptop/other device 'logging on' to another signal source - this is not uncommon...

The cure is to turn off the supply to all equipment - dish/router/laptop/other - wait for a minute and then apply power again.

If that doesn't work, ring your ISP.

Already tried that Keith; eventually got through to ISP they say the problems not at their end.
My router's getting on a bit that may be the problem.
Thanks

An often overlooked source of trouble is the downlead - they often only seem to test as far as the dish, and of course, the downlead is open to abuse from the weather, in its many forms...

I think that I've had a total of 4 downleads altogether in 13 years!

The old turn it off and turn it back on again. I’m sure that fixes 90% of all issues.

I’m not the best of flyers, but my anxiety was definitely not made any better when my friend, an aeroplane engineer for one of the biggest companies in the world, said that is how they fix a lot of their issues with planes.

Plug the lead from the roof-top modem direct into your PC i.e. missing out the router and test again... that will tell you if the router is possibly the problem...

I think the set top boxes can also a main fault. From the experience of some of people, replacing a box after about three years seems to have been the answer to their problems.

Whenever we reported a problem with one of the service buses we were driving we were told turn it off, wait 30 seconds and try again. It is a tried and tested fix that often (but not always) works.* I do it very frequently for the internet and more often than not it does improve the speed although not when some muppet has cut a fibre optic cable with a JCB of course.

* True story. One day a driver called over the radio to inform control that he had a puncture on his bus. He then said he had turned the bus off for 30 seconds restarted it but the tyre was still flat at the bottom. Good job I wasn't driving at the time as I had tears in my eyes from laughing.

Chris - love the bus story.

When I first started the long road to IT fixing, I was told about the switch off/on problem solver and in the main it works - sometimes. However, I well remember being told by an ancient (he must have been 35 if he was a day) BT engineer that to really solve the problem you had to switch off the power and remove the plug from the socket for 30 seconds, that allowed it to drain!!! For years I have wondered what drains out of the plug because I have never seen a puddle of anything after waiting for 30 seconds. I thought at the time it was a wind up but I did it anyway and a lot of the times it - or something else - cured the problem. For sure, in the early days of PC repair it was always a good trick to leave the PC plugged into the mains, switch off the mains and then hold down the start button for 30 seconds, apparently it cleared static from the components.

That's my tip for day guys and I guess this will be swiftly moved to a different heading now but good luck if you find it!!

Another fix is to remove the battery then switch off if using a laptop. Sorry

Soner, is that with the laptop still attached to the mains charger? None of it is truly off topic - it is all related.

If you can get to the battery! Just had a look on my laptop and it would mean taking a load of screws out. They don't want you buying a new battery when the first one goes dud and want you to buy a new laptop instead.
