Is it a balcony or a patio or a terrace or something else?
I live in a penthouse that has a balcony / patio / terrace which is 7.6M x 6.5M in size, with palm trees, large cactus and other shrubs in pots on it.
When people ask me about my penthouse HOW SHOULD I DESCRIBE MY OUTSIDE SPACE, is it a balcony or a terrace or a patio or indeed something else?

You daft scouser....!
Sorry the post made me laugh is it a real question ?
For what its worth id say a patio normally relates to adjoining a house . A bakcony is normally a bit smaller .
A terrace would be he most appropriate .but is it really important!
In Fact this is a perfect opportunity to inadvertently promote my rental apartment for free! If you look in the link below ihave a2+ 1 penthouse available for rent and it has a similar size outside space to your s. Guess what in the ad description i had called it a terrace!

Personal interpretation - balcony = an area jutting out above ground level from a building, with or without support (columns); patio = a ground-level area adjacent to a building, with paving, gravel or decking; terrace= (as per wiki) an external, raised, open, flat area in either a landscape (such as a park or garden) near a building, or as a roof terrace on a flat roof....
But take your pick...

This gave me such a laugh and even now I'm not sure you're serious or not. If you are serious then a dictionary, Wikipedia, of Google will give you all the information you need.

As I've spent the afternoon and early evening sipping the odd glass or two, a thought has just struck me --- if it's as has been decided it's not a balcony or patio, so must be a terrace --- BUT instead of any of these could it be a roof for the people who live below me!
In which case can I ask them to pay towards the expense of my watering the plants on their green roof or re-imburse me for the cost of having put new tiles on their flat roof.
Just an idea as I attempt to open my 2nd bottle of red whilst reclined in my hammock on the roof belonging to my neighbours below!

We have similar in UK. Rented out. Our agent advertises the property as having a 'Roof Garden'

I've lived in a top floor flat and later on in The Penthouse (very posh) the difference being a Penthouse has facility for some sort of small garden raised or otherwise. Running water, electricity, and a small covered area for avoiding the sun etc., rather than just a flat bit of concrete or tiling. Anyway, does it matter, lay back and enjoy the red wine and sunset.

What can you deduce if your balcony ends up being a patio? Your house has sunk!

As a young lad in Glasgow in the 40's that would be classed as an extra bedroom, an upgrade from a "Single end" to a Pied a Terre.
