Visit to Turkey
Now that I have a TRNC residency stamp in my UK passport, do I still need to apply for a visa to visit Turkey if I am flying from Ercan to Istanbul for a holiday?

Keith, not only are you always quick off the mark and knowledgeable, but I know it's a different country, I just thought that I read recently somewhere that both countries was recognising each others passports and driving licences and hence would accept each others documentation as if their own. Which is why I ask the question as I thought my residency stamp might count for something.

There is 'talk' of such things, but that's all - as far as I'm aware...

Re: Visit to Turkey
Do you have a 'residency' stamp? Most other expats only get a hand-written 'Visitor' annotation to the stamp in their passports - ergo, not residents of any status. Whatever Keith is accurate in his response. You now have to do the Turkey visa application on-line - a simple process.PortisheadScouser wrote:Keith, not only are you always quick off the mark and knowledgeable, but I know it's a different country, I just thought that I read recently somewhere that both countries was recognising each others passports and driving licences and hence would accept each others documentation as if their own. Unless you are very lucky and have found an answer to the age old conundrum, then tomsteel is spot on, what you have is a "Residency" stamp in your passport, not a Residency. If you do, then I'm sure there are thousands of us who would love to know how you managed it. Enjoy Istanbul regardless. Great city.

Re: Visit to Turkey
You’re all right, I have just looked at my passport and what I have is a Temporary Residance Permit with a 2 year period of validity, I just thought that as it is an official government stamp and what with Turkey and the TRNC being so entwined together that perhaps I could go to Turkey without the need for a Turkish Visa, hence my original question.
So looks like it’s an evisa for a trip to Istanbul.
Thanks for putting me straight!

It says: -
Department of Migration
D.N. handwritten number
Temporary Residance Permit issued under Cap.105 and Art 9 (1) of Regulation published under P.I. No.:234
Period of Validity. 06/08/19 – 06/08/21 (dates handwritten)
Category of Residence. visitor (handwritten)
F.2 No. handwritten number
Date. 06/08/19 ( date handwritten)
There’s also a postage stamp on the page that has had a franking stamp put partially over it and a large signature which in its self covers part of the franking stamp.
This is my first ever residency stamp and visit to Immigration HQ in Lefkosa, I was only expecting to get a stamp for one year but they asked if I would like a two year one so I said yes (I assume this is because I am over sixty).

Re: Visit to Turkey
Do you think we're all called Temporary Residents now and not Visitors? Anyone else been "done" lately?

I think the statement "Category of Residence - Visitor," answers the query.PortisheadScouser wrote:Tomsteel
