In order to separate this thread from someone asking about Antalya, I clicked on to the above. Across the top of the screen came the message

SORRY, UNFORTUNATELY IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO BOOK PROPERTIES IN TURKEY FROM YOUR COUNTRY, AT THIS TIME.

Anyone else come across this before?

I think that that should only affect the routing of UK TV/Media websites

Think that you are right there KC. Checking IP shows me being in Cyprus, perhaps Nethouse IP shows Turkey?

Booking.com is banned in Turkey your IP address is telling booking.com you live in the trnc.
Just use a VPN and there is no problems

In other words, I have to download a VPN before I can use Booking.com, or any other booking agency?

No, it's only 'Booking.com' that Turkey has fallen out with !

You don't need to 'download' a VPN - you've already got one installed, haven't you? - just click on the icon to turn it on or off as appropriate...

Yes it appears to be related to which random block of IP numbers you have been assigned to - if you have an IP address that appears to be Turkey, it's an issue with Booking.com - if not then it isn't...

Sophie Could you type the following in the address bar at the top of the screen, and then press the Enter key on your keyboard & tell us what the response is? whatsmyip

I find it faintly ironic that, having just checked in for my Turkish Airlines flight, booking.com is their chosen partner for the 'do you need a hotel room?' bit at the bottom of the screen on the TA app.

I don't, so I didn't click it to see if it works or not though

When I first read the original post, I wondered whether Turkey had joined the rest of the world in refusing to recognise the TRNC.....

KC: as below

IPv4: 93.182.107.84
IPv6: Not detected
Location: Mercin 33, TR

PS: KC didn't manage a VPN in the end, got about 9/10ths of the way through with two companies and they both threw total wobblies, so I gave up!

Hi Sophie, that does confirm indeed my supposition that you have been allocated an IP address that identifies your physical location as being in Turkey...

You could ask Nethouse to change your IP address - I don't know whether or not they can actually do this, but it won't hurt to ask - and if they can't, then ask them for help in installing and using a VPN.

Even if it means them sending a Techy around to your place to do it, they're probably not going to charge you more than 50TL, and most likely nothing at all if you play the 'helpless female'.

I did offer to help, if you recall

KC, yes you very kindly did, but I was adamant that I would do it myself and couldn't face going through it a third time. However, notwithstanding that, don't you dare call me a HELPLESS FEMALE!! BTW, the techy who did the dish and wiring didn't exactly excel in the "little grey cells" department. Its OK now though.

Sophie, I didn't mean that you were a 'Helpless Female' - no one who knew you and valued their life would have the balls to do that!

What I meant was for you to play the 'Helpless female' card - if it's a weapon at your disposal, then why not use it?

Anyway, if you don't get a satisfactory response from your ISP, my offer still stands.

We all have different strengths and weaknesses, and no one can be good at everything, - I couldn't organise my day and get a quarter of the stuff done that you do, and I'm not ashamed to admit it, but it doesn't mean that you have to be seen as an expert in something for which you don't have a natural aptitude, does it?

Have I dug myself out of the hole now?

Morning!! Well more or less KC, I can just see your head peeping over the side. I agree the HF act works wonders here, it shouldn't be needed though, but it does. I think I would have an natural aptitude, but lets face it ladies, the men have to be better than us at something. They sulk otherwise!!!
