Mountain of post at Girne Post Office.

I have been checking for post regularly since before Christmas as we still have outstanding cards from some relatives. When I looked last Friday there were sacks and sacks there...........

Went today and there is so much post in mail bags and on the sorting desk that staff there, I could see through the side door, had trouble moving around.

Hopefully in a couple of days we will have our post, albeit too late now to put cards up.

Not Girne this time, but 3 weeks before Christmas we were chasing up a registered letter from UK. From underneath the counter the assistant brought out piles of undelivered mail. Obviously if you don't have a PO Box (we do) and a package or letter is posted to your actual address and you don't have a daily mail delivery, then the Post Office can't do a thing about it. Hence why not go into your local PO and ask if you can look through the undelivered mail. Some of it was months and months out of date and they didn't know what to do with it, so there it just sits.

I went into Alsancak Post Office on Christmas Eve to enquire about post. We do have an irregular delivery, but thought I'd ask since it's nice to have the cards for Christmas, but was told there was nothing. Then, on January 4th, quite a pile of cards was delivered to my door, most of them having arrived and been stamped at Alsancak before December 15th! At least I was able to display them for 2 days before before 12th night!

We had the same thing with Catalkoy. We went to the post office about the 20th as we hadn't had any post and they said there wasn't any and then it arrived on 24th but had been stamped the 9th at Catalkoy! We are still lots of post missing so let's hope Girne keep sorting the mail and it arrives soon.

So now you can understand how much undelivered mail there must be hanging around if you live out of the centre of Alsancak, Karaoglanoglu or wherever and never have mail delivered to your property and don't have a PO Box number. The PO is between a rock and a hard place because they don't open stuff and send it back, even if there is a return address on the rear of the package or envelope.

Here in Malatya, mail goes from Alsancak PO to our Muhtar. If it isn't collected after a while, her son delivers it to our door.
