Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
Given that most swallows are over 60 how many have changed their travel plans because of the Coronavirus? My husband can't travel because of underlying health problems, which generally applies to a lot of the 'elderly' and we are having to put on hold our travel plans, unfortunately. I know Cyprus is safer than the UK at the moment, it just seems to be the actual getting there that is a problem.

Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
Our plans for Spring have also been put on hold due to slow recovery from illness (last autumn), but apart from that, would still have given serious consideration because of covid. Unfortunately, we (and I suspect many) will/would have booked flights already, and as insurance companies are already wriggling and attempting to refuse refunds, many may be reluctant to lose that money - "Well, the FCO haven't actually listed Cyprus as risky...."

We had plans to go from the UK to Istanbul in May, although no cases have been reported in Turkey we have not booked any flights.

Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
we're flying out on the 23rd, both over 70 and have no intention of changing our plans, unless, of course, some sort of embargo is put in place. In that case we'll need to find out where they get those rubber dinghies from.

Flying from London to Larnaca next week.
Have 3 further trips booked up until November.
I'm also taking one for the team and have just booked 10 days in Jan 21 - after Brexit kicks in.
Larnaca Airport will no doubt be interesting.

Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
Email below received today from Karpas marina - seems lf you can get there healthy they might actually be taking a more pro-active response than most - does this apply to Ercan and other borders?
Third country nationals who will travel to the TRNC from China, Iran, Iraq, South Korea and Italy, which are considered as high risk countries in terms of COVID-19, will not be admitted to the TRNC from the land, sea and air border gates until further notice.

Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
If I understood it correctly, citizens returning from any of these countries will do 14 days quarantine in Turkey before being allowed back in to TRNC. These are just the TRNC rules, no idea how Turkey itself is treating third country nationals arriving from these countries, they presumably have their own procedures in place there for checking and quarantine.

So that's it then, wait until 1 April, although I wouldn't mind betting things will go on well beyond that date. More of this wonderful English spring to put up with. Ho hum.

Brian.

Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
I wanted my Mum to come over, figured she`d be less at risk here
She declined the suggestion but the border controls having taken away that possibility does bring home the separation, excuse the pun

My mum is in a care home and I have just been told that they are in lockdown, no visitors at all to try and keep them all safe. This is getting very serious now.

Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
I am due to fly to Ercan on Sunday with Pegasus from Stansted. I have finally got through to them on the phone and they don't know anything about the new rules barring Brits without residency from the TRNC, They told me to phone again in the morning when they might have the information. I don't know if they will offer a refund or a change or too bad it's your loss.

For Sophie;
Go to the Pegasus website;
According to a message posted last Saturday, depending on when your flight was booked you should be ok for a refund or rebook.

Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
For your info, a gentleman posted on FB yesterday that he was denied check in at Stansted by Pegasus despite the fact he has residency. They said only TRNC citizens allowed to travel to Ercan.Sophieway wrote:I am due to fly to Ercan on Sunday with Pegasus from Stansted. Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
Managed to get through to Pegasus. The website only applies to flight cancellations . Since the flight wasn't cancelled I would have to pay £40 to change the tickets. The very nice Pegasus telephonist said I could have an open ticket or a refund. The tickets cost £232 and I could have £150. He also said that doing these changes was not possible on the website. I decided to have the refund as I had already booked our September flight.

Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
I am a newbie to the forum but have been visiting the TRNC for spring and autumn for 15 years and own a house here. I am sorry if I have caused some confusion but I can only report what my experience was with Pegasus. The choices were an open ticket or a partial refund.

Sophieway, its not what you said, its the fact that people replied to me, when in fact they should have replied to you. Have been on forum since 2012 . Sophie

Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
What would be the point? You may not have had it when you were tested but you may have contracted it since. It would prove nothing and insisting on people having one is naive in the extreme.
Re: Swallows and travelling to Cyprus.
Suggestions as how to pay kibtec and other bills to avoid being cut off etc. whilst not being able to travel to NC, welcomed.
