Beef suet anywhere?
Has anyone got the low-down on a supply of beef suet?
I could ask the butcher but if Atora suet is in a shop (near me) that would be good to know...

Re: Beef suet anywhere?
I’ve been keeping an eye out for it from Alsancak to karsiyaka for a few months now, nowhere to be found. In Bestmar in Lapta I have bought sachets of Auntie Bessies dumpling mix and been using that. Don’t know where you live, but generally if one shop has it, they all will.

Yeah but I want it for Suet Crust Pastry.... which is a cross between rough puff and dumpling.
Suet Crust Pastry (2 pie tops)
125g Self-raising flour
75g Beef suet
¼ Teaspoon Baking powder
¼ Teaspoon Salt
¼ Teaspoon Mustard powder
75ml Cold water
1 Egg beaten to glaze
Mix all dry ingredients well in a large bowl
Add water and work with a spoon to make a soft dough
Roll into a ball and wrap in cling film, put in fridge for 20 mins.
Roll out on floured board and cut to shape, top pies and brush with egg wash.
Cook for 30 mins at 180c.

I have used frozen butter, grated on the cheese grater, in the past when suet wasn’t available. Not quite the same, but it did work OK. Just need to be quick using it.

Aunt bessies works for your purposes too. I only use it for pie toppings, just add a bit of mustard powder or pepper or whatever and add water until the correct texture is reached. Quick and easy. Good luck

Ps I imagine that aunt bessies is the same as atora (it says it contains beef suet) but with the flour and a bit of seasoning already added, and the price adjusted accordingly!

As a substitute if you can't get any, you could always try lard or vegetable shortening.

I bought Atora Suet from Tempo in Karaoğlanoğlu back in January.

Where?? Looks as if the place is dying on its feet these days. I stopped going there months ago, more empty shelves than Tesco full of panickers!!
