According to that paper the lock down is being extended to April 30th, more hardship if true for lots of businesses and employed people.

It is only two weeks. What they are doing is working. Rush to change all that and we risk losing what we have gained.
If we rush into a return to everywhere open there is a high probability that everywhere will end up shutting again for who know how long.

Oh woe is me, another two weeks with no bricks! Another two weeks of talking to the dog! Another two weeks of walking around the garden! Another two weeks of not buying any petrol! Another two weeks of being alive and well!!! Another two weeks of helping this pandemic clear its way through this country! Another two weeks of staying home, staying safe!!!
On the plus side, if I am very careful, I have enough coffee beans left to last another two weeks - and the sun will be out again tomorrow and more important - I WILL STILL BE HERE AND SAFE!
Take care out there, there is more blue in the sky than grey!

No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

This is a small part of the island, with limited resources. They are doing the best they can with what information is available, and seem to hopefully, have cracked down quickly, compared to other countries in trying to stop the spread. It seems to be working here. Can see no reason why they should change tactics now, until there are no instances of the virus. None of us like being cooped up at home, but it is for the greater good.
The economy is hurting big time, no one is arguing that one, and people who are not being paid, are the hardest hit, especially the lowest earners, who live from week to week on their earnings, with no savings to help them out, and especially those who are not entitled to government payouts.
We can all do our bit by buying a little bit of extra shopping, there are numerous schemes in different areas. I am in Tatlisu and the Bele are collecting non-perishable food, nappies, sanitary items, disinfectants etc. to distribute to those in need.
Erol has a donation scheme going for those slipping through the cracks, who cannot receive any payments from the government.
Much as we would all like everything to return to normal, it's not going to happen soon. Better to just try and keep spirits up, and do what you can to help others out, try and stay positive, and be thankful for what you have. Keep in touch with friends and family through internet/phone. We are all in the same boat.

I thought the lockdown had ended today! our neighbour around 11 am had 4 cars turn up, including a hire car pull up with lots of people and all day chat chat natter natter, kids screaming. For the island's sake I really hope they were all virus free as her son works for the municipality therefore tomorrow, the next day ….. he will be going around village cleaning being in contact with others who then will go back to their families spreading like wild fire. At one time the municipality police did pass and beep his horn and wave his arms., I did ask them several times lockdown bitti from my roof to be greeted with waves

It's damned infuriating, when sensible people are sticking to the rules, and others are blatantly ignoring them. I really don't have an answer. If it is frontline essential workers, and they really are disobeying the rules. I would report them to your local Bele or police. Just get your facts right before reporting, and don't be going overboard because you saw someone walking down the street. Emergency services will have enough to deal with as it is.snd1966 wrote: ↑Wed 15 Apr 2020 5:53 pmI thought the lockdown had ended today! our neighbour around 11 am had 4 cars turn up, including a hire car pull up with lots of people and all day chat chat natter natter, kids screaming. I really do hope that the Government will NOT bow down to the commercial sector of the Island and instead will take the health and safety of the island as a whole as the driving force. It will rise up and bite them in the bum if they lower the shutters too soon. I stood this morning and watched the police stopping cars going out of Alsancak towards Girne. There were about 20 in the queue but I saw not ONE single vehicle car being refused and it makes me wonder what is the point. However, it looked impressive.!!

We went through on our way to Lefkosa on Monday. A queue of about 12, most of us had a permit but they had pulled over four cars onto the hard shoulder and these were being questioned by other officers. Similar on the way back.

Its a fair point but people do need to earn some money. Obviously we need to stamp out those who think it is sensible to have a barbecue for 50 friends.sophie wrote: ↑Thu 16 Apr 2020 11:36 amI really do hope that the Government will NOT bow down to the commercial sector of the Island and instead will take the health and safety of the island as a whole as the driving force. Thing is I can easily self isolate for the next 6 months by popping out once a week getting some shopping in and pegging out by the pool for the rest of the time. If I had to go out to get some money to feed my family I would be forced to risk getting the disease.

Re: Cyprus Today on line
Most people in Dipkarpaz follow the rules, all except the stupid little 'boy racers', we met one on our way to the cashpoint, that we had permission to go to - well just unbelievable!!! In the space of 5 mins we met them 3 times, engines going 'wrooom, wrooooom wroom', stereo extra loud.
Then yesterday the car wash near us must have 'forgotten all about the quarantine we are having here - six vehicles, at least as many blokes all chatting close together, washing a car..........., what is it about 'car people'?? Masks???? Hahaha
I called the police and that did stop it!!!
All the other neighbours are being very responsible and were very upset about this!!

These are the same people who text while driving, dont wear seat belts, drive like lunatics, so there is no chance of observing a social distancing rule. It makes you so angry to see this kind of behaviour, they just dont get it!!

CT have got it wrong. They are confusing flight cancellations with lockdown. There has been no announcement yet as to what happens after the 17th. Next meeting of council of ministers is tomorrow at 14.30.

Who said anything about temperature checks!?
They were checking only permission permits!!!!!
[/quote]
Don't you think that it's appropriate for one of the first indicators (temperature) could/should be checked for people travelling between three different areas?
