i ve been with multimax for about 6-7 months in nicosia area, for the last 2-3 months my adsl system started playing up, 8am connection problems, few hours later same, evening same.
so i contacted the guy at nicosia office they checked my wireless box no problems maybe the phone lines have problem, well we had new wires pulled from the street into our house but the problem carried on.

Multimax said maybe your line cant take the 4.0mbps speed and phone company may have to reduce the speed down to 2.0mbps for better performance, well i didnt agree with that but today i done a speed test and it shows 1.70mbps, i rang the guys at multimax they said seems like your speeds been cut down, there was no need for this because i paid for this speed and also it worked fine when we first setup the adsl at 4.0mbps. I hope we can sort this asap.

Is anyone else getting this sort of problems?

If you look back through other postings there are several discussions about Mulitmax, . However, to avoid any unnecessary postings here, could I please suggest if anyone shares your problems or can offer any advice, they e mail or p.m. you from KibKom, and you c an then correspond with them direct. another move would be to g back to Multimax and talk to them again to try to sort out your problem.

Other KibKomers if you have a similar problem please contact 'cyprus'

Hello Cyprus,
We have previously stated some facts about the ADSL service and I would like to reiterate them here for public information. I am going to itemize them so its easier to read.

1. There is only 1 ADSL infrastructure on this island, and it belongs to the local Telekom.
2. All Internet Providers (including Multimax) uses this same infrastructure in order to deliver ADSL connectivity to Customer.
3. Multimax (or any other ISP)'s job is only to open up a customer account for telekom to authenticate against, and thats it. Everything else, including your set speed it done at the telekom side.

Therefore, when an ADSL customer calls with a problem, we check if the customer account is in good order (e.g. not expired) and whether the customer is currently online or not. Beyond this point we do not have any access to Telekom's Systems and we cannot do any further troubleshooting. All we can say is that from 'our side' things are looking normal and make an official inquiry with the Telekoms.

When an inquiry is made with the Telekom, apart from this being a near hopeless venture, they check the 'line quality' (line quality can be bad because of 1) wires from house to distribution box 2) from distribution box to exchange 3) from exchange to local termination point or 4) from temination point Local Telco HQ) and first thing they attempt is to try a lower speed in order to find out if a better reliability is achieved. This is followed by informing local Telco branch for them to perform some tests on their side which can take multiple weeks and bear no fruit.

What we usually tell our customers is that ADSL is a cheap alternative and it is good when it works, but customers should not expect much of a customer service when it comes to problems as most of the issues are beyond our control to resolve.
----
@Cyprus, in your specific case, we have encountered customer who has never had problems for months and even years and suddenly develop them, having new wires done from street to inside is a good try but looks like it was not enough to solve the problem so the problem must be at one of the other points.

As for the speed, it does look like your speed was slashed down, but not from Multimax. It was done at the telekom's end, it needs to be checked whether this was done only for testing or after they deemed that your line only supports 2mb.

Overall ADSL is a good low cost alternative to wireless (as there is no infrastructure cost to ISPs) if the customer is lucky to have a land line in good order which is difficult to come by. One should understand the repercussions when ordering ADSL service.

great to hear of a satisfied customer. I find here that speeds can vary tremendously compared tother places i hve lived. I have adsl and also a dongle for when I am out and about. for me, it is 'go with the flow'and hope that the flow is a reasonable speed.

so glad to hear that all is now well cyprus.
