Apparently Ercan's new owners have made huge rent increases

According to Ergin Yücelen, who has been selling gifts and souvenirs at Ercan since 1991, Taşyapı (the mainland company who bought the airport), have quadrupled (!) his rent. Yücelen said that last year he paid 10,959 euros, but the new company asked for 45000 euros and moreover as an advance payment. Apparently Yücelen closed up his shop for the last time yesterday evening.

I can't honestly believe those figures - there's something we're not being told (in the original gündemkıbrıs report) - I wonder if other shopkeepers had the same percentage increases in their rents ...
