Trump had become the first US president to be impeached twice.

Doubt he will be found guilty if the GOP stand behind him AGAIN!

maybe Deniz.
senat will not meet before 19th and a decision is not expected. after that, 8 to 10 powerful GOP members will look into a mirror and see the next president.
they call some friends.. and all over the sudden the needed 17 votes come up...

They'll look into a mirror and see the next president, then see if they can make manoeuvres to get a stalking horse to deliver the knife in the back so they don't look bad.... it's politics, not real life!

My only worry with an impeachment is if your evidence doesn't come up to scratch the person is found not guilty. Can't we hold a trial behind closed doors and have a selected bunch of judges give a verdict?
Death rather than imprisonment, send a message out?

That would be the case if the American idiot hadn't dobbed himself in on TV... I don't know what you think is a smoking gun but, come on, of course he will wriggle, twist and turn, even try to give a presidential pardon to himself ... but that would be an admission of guilt.

Fool done give himself too much rope.... now pokey time a coming...

At any point did he actually say march and have a violent demonstration? Remember law deals with facts not opinion. You can't just convict naty people you need to produce evidence that removes reasonable doubt.
Lot's of fight for this and that but that can be taken in a variety of ways. I have never read a quote we need to fight for the NHS as take a gun along to 10 Downing Street.
As for incendiary language again that could be viewed in a variety of ways.
Personally, given the temperature of the time and the fact that there are a small amount of extremists stirring up trouble I didn't think Biden's speech from a couple of days ago that he would prioritise Black, Hispanic, Asian and Native American small businesses was the most sensible speech he could make. I don't think he meant harm but is there no chance that a white supremist could twist that to say well if you are a white small business your President doesn't really careabout your struggles and you will be bottom of the queue for help?
Maybe let's help EVERYONE who is struggling would be a healing route to take at the moment?

Hey ETS,
this discussion is about that Trump was impeached and how GOP members in senate, not in court, may act after the 20th to find Trump guilty or not.
maybe during the discussion whether the GOP will fall apart or even decay.

NOT what Biden said a couple of days ago.

Yey............another Trump thread.

Thank heavens for that.

It's not as though we have 25 other Trump threads in the politics section.

Of course. The thread is about Trump's language being inflammatory and throwing petrol on an already tense situation.
Not Biden saying something pretty dumb given the circumstances. Got it.
Just give me a heads up on future etiquette please.
Obviously Trump has been fair game for the last 4 years, I've got that.
No one could ever criticise Obama because that would have been racist it seems. Ok got that.
Kamala Harris, racist and sexist. Got that.
Now obviously we can't criticise Biden. At all. Ever. Is there a particular reason bar the obvious? Ageism?

So just so I’m clear in case there is any sort of demonstration at next week’s inauguration. The above wasn’t a coup or an insurrection against a democratic election but any demonstration next week will be?
Ok got it.
On the positive, lots of people were wearing masks to stop any risk of infections spreading.

Listening to Biden generally fumble around trying to read a speech written for him this could blow up in their faces somewhat.
I can see Kamala Harris having her bags packed ready to move in within a year or so.
Unless maybe they are laying the ground for vote Joe, get Kamala?

If he is found guilty what is his punishment apart from not being able to run for president again.

He could face civil and criminal charges, the latter would be down to the next President Joe Biden.

Assuming they want to quiet down the fury on this, I doubt anything less than hanging wouldn't be enough.

Don’t think anyone would want him as a martyr, probably end up like Al Capone.

I think Al Capone had far more money than Trump alleges he has!
Trump has to be the only millionaire I've heard who wanted to sue a journalist because he said he had less money than he alleged.
By and large most millionaires like to play down how much money they have.

Guess Joe won’t be holding too many press conferences in the future.

I assume most people remember the digs at Reagan about his age and allegedly for the last couple of years he was shot away but bear in mind he left office after 2 terms at 77, Biden became president at 78.

EJS, I have to admit the News Conference was excruciatingly cringeworthy in fact downright embarrassing. I'm not surprised his "Team" have kept him away away from the press for so long.

Being smooth and eloquent in front of the press doesn’t necessarily define a good leader but I’m struggling to see what Biden IS going to bring to the party. All we have to go on is 50 years of inactivity and he isn’t Trump. There was a pop at the Brits too which doesn’t bode well for our future relationship
