Remember the days of the long wait outside the office? Now you don’t go into the building, just go around the back, follow the signs to first window and if there’s a line then join it!

Just been for our 09:16 appointment, early at 08:50, no line seen straight away, both of us done and dusted by 08:58! Fastest in 15 years!

How long in advance did you make your appointment which I thought was to stop the need for lines? Can one person speak for the two of you or do you both have to go.

Your appointment is given to you via your online application.
You both have to go so that they can see you with your passport and verify that it's you.
Two applications will get different times (hopefully not dates) depending on the time difference between applications.

All correct as above, our two appointments were 09:09 and 09:16 because I had everything ready to input on both on separate screens on my computer - learnt that from last year - lol. Very easy today and Hassan was most helpful as normal.

All we do now is pay the State Health Insurance on-line then sit back and wait. Tried to do that already but my Visa card refused, my MasterCard refused and my Turkish Bank Maestro card refused as well. Here we go again - lol.

Anyone who has paid on line for state health and been successful, could you please post which type of card was accepted? It will save me going through every card in the wallet time after time - lol, thanks.

Another one for the wallet. It's crazy how some cards are acceptable and others not. On a positive note, guess having to go in and out of my wallet helps keep the cobwebs away.

All sorted now Soner. When we got our Pre Paid Turk Bank Maestro cards last year there was a small mistake made - The card I was issued (against the card number) was in my wife name and her's was in my name - crazy but did not really matter at the time. Now a year has gone past and millions of brain cells have died off - I forgot about it - lol. Just used my card - with her name - and it all worked a treat. Think we will spend all the money on both cards and get new ones for next year - lol.

Waddo, can i ask you the process please. I did my residence the ' old way ' 2 years ago for 2 years so in October i will have to renew on this new system. I'm hopeless with technology so am dreading it. My phone is a nokia so you will see what i mean. I am fairly ok with computers as long as it's not too complicated but just dont have a clue as to where to start. Any help would really ease my pain.

Infonorthcyprus.com is an excellent website for lots of easy to follow guides including online residency.
To prepare in good time:
Get originals and copies ready of all paperwork as per the manual system (list is available on above website)
Get recent passport sized original photos
Get yourself a pre paid card to pay health insurance which will be required after police station visit if you have not got one.
Be prepared to upload passport and new muhters letter during initial phase of online application
Apply for main applicant first then dependent applicants
You will get a sms with appointment(s) for you and any other dependents at police station. If there are different days/times don’t worry, just all go together on the first appointment.
Check the system regularly for updates and wait patiently for each stage to complete.

Thanks Acacia, most helpful. I will check out the website and follow the instructions. Not sure of how to ' upload ' photos or forms but i am sure i will find out. Thanks again. There should be an idiots shop somewhere we all of us ( not you clever lot ) can go.

Good advice from Acacia indeed. I took photos with my phone of the passport bits and the muhter letters, saved them to my computer then uploaded them from there. The prepaid card for paying the State Hospital Insurance is great - just make sure it is in your name, unlike my card in my wife name and her card in my name - DOH! It is simple and preparation is the key to it all. Good luck.

BJB, the mukhtar letter is valid until the authorities want a new one! Normally if you try to use last years letter it won't work. As they are only about 10TL each we just get one (New) when ours is needed and if it is over a month old!! It is a bit like the length of a piece of string really.

My understanding is that you get a new Muhtars letter everytime you apply for residency renewal and that letter must be no more than 30 days old on day of application.

If you are struggling with the online bit, Caroline Houghton who has been a key player in settting up infonorthcyprus.com
offers help to expats to complete online application form for a small fee. I believe the fee is in the region of 90 tl per application.
If you are a member of the Foreign Residents Assoc or ATA you may already know Caroline.
You can get her contact details by contacting these associations.

There are Expat consultancy services also. I do not know what they charge or how much work they will do for you.

Note - it is still your responsibility to have all your documention and photo ready and a payment card ready that works. Consultancy services unlike to pull all this together for you.
