I haven't seen an announcement recently of the update in price. A while back I read that it was going to be 2.70 TL per kW, but nothing official.

Hmmm, wonder how long the delay in reading the meter for Februarys bill will take? Not that it would include any of the new prices through - would it? Be an interesting read this time - lol.

On the loose figures available I figure my bill will average £50 a month or £600 a year and I can not complain when my mate in the UK has just had a letter to tell him his estimated rise will be £840 for this next year - that is a rise on top of whatever he already pays! He lives alone in a two bed terraced house and is careful with all his bills, having only a small private pension and his state pension to live off. Not funny for lots of people in the UK as well as lots of people here.

Now is that a bit if a cynic coming out in you there Waddo?

It really is going to be tough for some people living here, and also in the UK. As always, it's the people at the low end of the scale who suffer the most with price increases.

Not at all - never really cynical BUT alway suspicious - lol. I try to find humor in all things but as ex military my sense of humor is not the same as true civilians and can easily be misinterpreted - lol. I do feel sorry for the people at the low end of the scale these days and thank my lucky stars that, for the moment, we can stay a jump ahead of that scale. The way things are going I don't think it will be all that long, if we are not careful, that we will slip down into the low end as well. That is the problem with getting old I guess. Take care out there guys.

I understand completely regarding sense of humour, I should have used suspicious rather than cynical.

Let's just hope that we can all keep our heads above water, got another few years before I get my state pension, due to goalposts being moved.

So lots of people will now have the choice of sitting and eating in the dark or just sitting hungry in the light - great choices that is! Then there is the double whammy of being cut off and trying to find the cash for the reconnection fee to consider as well.

I feel for the people on minimum wages that bear the brunt of the higher prices every day.

I really feel for those who are struggling as it is. The latest price increases will just add further to the problem.

I have read another article which says that the amount of debt will not be reduced to 100 TL but increased to 675 TL. This is only one article though, amongst the myriad which said that it would be 100 TL, so goodness only knows which is correct. Can't see anything about it on Kibtek website or FB page so far.

Well said.... I've read many Turkish news articles where people are stating that "meat" has become a luxury item. One family mentioned that they don't accept dinner invites anymore as they cant afford to return the invite. It truly is a sad situation and with this hike there won't be anywhere left open for tourists to visit.

And yet another article to add to all the confusion.

https://www.kibrisgazetesi.com/kibris/b ... 25455.html
Perhaps this bit explains the confusion about debt limits.
Power cut limit Changes were also made in the practice regarding power cuts due to debt. Accordingly, the limit for foreign students and temporary workforce is 100 TL; For citizens, it was 675 TL.

Bet many of them still manage to buy a new Merc every couple of years. I know a lot of people are not on that level, but if round about here is anything to go by, then a lot are.

Your guess is as good as mine. Although I have heard in the past that "citizen" can mean citizens and residents (temp and permanent).

alphamike, I've heard the same (?rumour?) for the last couple of years or so, but it supposedly only applied to those with full Title Deeds, regardless of what your classification. I've tried, without success, to get to the bottom of it. I wish somebody could though.

BB, yes it would nice to have some clarification, but funnily enough, suspect we will never know.
I'll just continue to pay both electric and phone bills when the last of the two come in every month, online, as my memory cannot be relied upon to leave them for any length of time these days.
