Leg Ulcers
Does anyone know if there is anywhere here that assesses and then dresses the above on a regular basis. Can't find out a thing on the subject, but can't believe that locals don't suffer from them. Trying to find a specialist clinic if at all possible.

Thanks, we have been trying all manner of "cures" and a visits to local TRNC doctor who I have come to the conclusion is grasping at straws and recommending everything on the Pharmacists shelves. Will certainly have a look at the NHS site though. Thanks

There’s a company advertising wound care services at home. It’s on Facebook. I haven’t used them but might be worth phoning them for a free consultation. It’s called Yara Bakimi Kibris. (Wound care Cyprus) Phone no. 0533 857 5359

Re: Leg Ulcers
Thank you very much kedikat2903 will contact them. (don't do Facebook) Yet again we have been let down by a medical specialist at the NEU There some very specialised dressings that I'm having brought over from the UK at the end of next week, but if I don't see an improvement then I definitely contact the above. Thanks for your help.

Re: Leg Ulcers
Good morning.
Leg ulcers are a little tricky to treat. The most important factor is, is it venous or arterial? Easily diagnosed with a doppler test to assess arterial blood flow, previous medical history, general "look" of the ulcer etc. But always a doppler.
There are some fantastic dressings on the market and they do work. But as with most tasks its choosing the right tool for the job and a bit of preparation. You could look at the NICE guidelines. Always a good starting point for expert recommendations.
Also with a true ulcer, don't expect rapid improvement. The definition of an ulcer is a wound that is not healing. Good luck.

Re: Leg Ulcers
Thanks marjie for your encouragement. We have been dealing with this problem for over two years here in TRNC and the medics sadly really don't have a clue. We have tracked down a particular dressing in the UK and purchased some from Amazon. These were being brought over from UK today but all flights at Istanbul stopped. The person bringing them over was only stopping two days and then returning. They are expensive and pharmacists can't find an alternative here. There are some dressing pads which are similar but actually are very second best. We've had two doppler tests and two specialists here have recommended two diametrically opposite solutions. And so we go on.

Re: Leg Ulcers
Good grief. 2 years is a long time.
You will already know that the only purpose of a doppler is to see if peripheral arterial blood flow is compromised, and to what degree. The results obtained can guide management of the wound. But clinical assessment is important.
Leg ulcer treatment really is a specialised area of practice; there is lots of guidance on the web, particularly the NICE leg ulcer pathway.
I am sorry that you are having such a bad time trying to find a clinician that you trust.
