A message from Margaret Ray
It is with great sadness and regret that I inform you that myself and four of my colleagues feel that we have no alternative but to resign from the committee of KAR with immediate effect.
As you all know myself, and some friends, began KAR from nothing over 25 years ago and now we are leaving it with a beautiful well established animal shelter, home to over 200 dogs and cats, a fully equipped neutering clinic, thousands of pounds worth of assets in vehicles, equipment etc and a well established administration system, a healthy bank account and having cared, loved and tended thousands of animals over 25 years plus.
My colleagues, who have been great friends continue with their support , and are also retiring are:
Marian Clay (Treasurer) She has been helping KAR for 14 years. A few years ago she took over the Sponsorship project and looked after a number of collection and supermarket boxes.
Gwen Cassell (Secretary) She first volunteered at our Charity Shop 20 years ago and soon moved up to managing the shop. Over the years the number of shops increased to three. She also organized the highly successful Christmas Bazaars.
Dennise Aksoy. Who has also been helping KAR for 14 years. Managing ‘KAR Online sales’, She has sourced prices and advice of donations of value and managed House & Home shop.
Senem Burkuoglu. She has been with KAR for 8 years. She is a valued member of the shop team. She also acted as our translator and was a local media co-ordinator.
We have always been professional and, as such. leave with everything in order and with lasting memories. The knowledge, experience and qualifications in animal welfare move with us.
We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all the friends we have made over the years, supporters, volunteers, veterinary personnel, officials, media and press and everyone that have supported us throughout.
Thank you.
Margaret Ray

I know personally two of the people named from KAR that have resigned and I have the utmost respect for them both. For them, after all their years of hard work and dedication they have given to the needy animals here in the TRNC, to stop what they have loved to do must be gutwrenching. To all of them even those I do not know personally I send them my best wishes and thanks. . Love and respect.

I've donated a few times before Margaret so it's good to see the hard work you've all put in over the years and that others will no doubt continue in years to come. Animals can't speak for themselves and they're almost always left out of celebrity special quiz shows, so they need as much help from us humans as they can get. You know they appreciate everything you do from the look in their eyes and I'm sure they'd be giving you all a standing ovation right now if they could. Well done y'all and enjoy your retirement.

I know 3 of the ladies who resigned and I know it was a hard decision not taken lightly. I thank them for the hard work and effort they all put in to make KAR what it is today.

I don’t begrudge anyone not for one moment their saying “time to pack it in”, especially voluntary work.

However, a flurry of resignations from an animal welfare charity / organisation… cannot be good for such an organisation… am l missing something?

Dear friends, members, volunteers and supporters,

Following the AGM held 6 July 2022 the new committee at KAR would like to sincerely thank Margaret Ray, Gwen Cassell Denise Aksoy Marion Clay and Senem Burkuoglu for their many years of unstinting hard work and commitment to KAR. Their dedication, combined with the contributions of so many others over the years has left a legacy that we are proud to build on.

The task ahead of the new committee is a daunting prospect because of all that has been achieved so far. It is the beginning of a new era for KAR and we hope you will join us on this journey. We will do our best to ensure that it is business as usual for all concerned, whilst we transition.

Our Centre will operate as normal and our dogs and cats will continue to receive a high level of love and care. We would welcome any questions or comments you may have.

We hope in time to build a KAR that seeks to be more inclusive of the views and opinions of all stakeholders. Please bear with us while we focus on getting to grips with the day to day running of our organisation. Once we have that under control we hope to start the wider discussion on the direction of KAR going forward with all interested parties.

Jacky Kester, Carole Hudson, Michael Prior, Lynette MacInnes, Karin Bos-Janssen and Ray Morris

I stand corrected if I am misinformed but I thought this was a salaried position.

You got me wondering. Nothing on the KAR website indicates anything but volunteers. It is a registered charity - and may well have (or had) a paid management team.

As an Ex member of an earlier Executive Committee I would like to make it perfectly clear that ANYONE who thought that I or any of my then colleagues was paid a kuros is totally and utterly misinformed. It cost me a load of cash in petrol, phone bills, wear and tear in my car maintenance, time and the list goes on and on. I suggest that anyone posting incorrect information, apologises publically

Yes, the implication that anyone on the Management Committee is/was paid. Even when attending Animal Rescue conferences in another country, flights, hotels and conference participation, was paid for personally, and not a penny from KAR. Obviously the Manager of the Centre is/was salaried.

Thought you had decided to stop going on about this. Thanks for clarifying there is/was a mix of voluntary and paid employment at KAR. Well done to all those involved at KAR, volunteers or paid managers/staff, it matters not to me, whether paid or voluntary.

However, all the bluff and bluster around who did what for free detracts from my musing…

… almost like a magician using misdirection to distract the audience.

So, was l missing something? Pray tell, why the flurry of resignations?

That question is best asked of the people concerned, not aired on a public forum.

The original post titled “ A MESSAGE FROM MARGRET RAY” listing the resignations was made using the KAR profile, on this “public” forum.

Margaret Ray felt it ok to post under the KAR registered charity profile, stating…

Surely it is not unreasonable to inquire using the same thread on this “public” forum, what went before?
