Thank you all for your input.
Probably best to buy a new laptop then.

I have a couple of Dell D830 laptops, which were first produced fifteen years ago (2008) - stickers proudly state "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP". When I bought them (second hand) both were running Win7 and I upgraded to Win10, with regular updates. When Win11 first appeared via the updates, the check stated that my machines were too old and did not have suitable components, so cannot be updated at all.
Following an article in Computeractive magazine regarding a "work around" (available form Microsoft themselves!!) I have succeeded in installing Win11 and (so far) have had no problems - but I have found no (IMO) improvements over Win10, and only got the satisfaction of getting it up and running!
(Oh, and one program from Win98 that served me perfectly all the way up to and in Win10 has finally given up in Win11... )
:-(
So although one of my drives has Win11, it's there just a toy to experiment with....

As RJW opt for Matt PC Doctor first, see if he can sort the problem out, if not he will tell you.
