Car insurance price up !

Post by Reyntj »

I just renewed my car insurance with dagli . I tried to get a quote before the end of the year but they couldnt give me one said prices where being updated. My insurance was due today so i had to act.

The third party was the same . Despite devaluing the car by 15 % my comprehensive cover increased by over 30 % !

I asked why and they gave me some flanelabout a union meeting and all insurers increasing by 30 % . As i didnt have time to confirm this by getting other quotes as my insurance expired today i accepted it .

Be interested to see anybody else have any new year quotes!

P.s.

Price was i. £ so unrelated to tl fluctuatiins

Unfortunately, all insurance companies have increased their motor insurance premiums significantly from 1st January 2020. The minimum thırd party premiıum has increased from 450tl to approx to 490tl and the minimum fully comprehensive premium has ıncreased from £140 to £200.

Please note that all premıums quoted by Tiga are for any driver (with valid licence). The fully comprehensıve prıces ınclude breakdown assistance and courtesy car.

Please feel free to call Sarah on 0548 851 5243, 0044 (0)7958 030556 or email sarah@tigatrading.com to obtain a quotation.

We will shop around when renewal comes up. We are with Dagli but cost is a major factor of course. Will this increase also affect home insurance?

It makes you wonder why we all bother to shop around as its the Government who in the end decided on percentage price increases, not the individual companies. (at least that's what we were told by Dagli last price increase ) The Government decides on virtually everything and there is little or no competition on a lot of items we purchases on a regular basis. I understand that the No Claims Bonus has come into force now, but haven't had this confirmed (sadly won't apply to us in any case!)

If you only have the compulsory Third Party Insurance this is the same price whoever you buy it from.

I payed 2300tl beginning of September, 3rd party on an old jeep 'Tuscan' Hyundai, no fully comprehensive as vehicle too old. I also thought the base car insurance was Government price controlled but maybe due to type of car and weight.

Comparing the quote by Tiga as of Jan 2020 (490 TL) with Brinsley's figure (2,300 TL) - that is a rise of approx. 470% .

Of course we should remember that all car spares are imported and subject to price variations as exchange rates fluctuate, which will have some relevance regarding collision damage repair costs.

In the same period the Turkish Lira has devalued against Sterling - it was approx. 6.7 TL to 1 GBP in 2020, and today it is hovering around the 45TL to 1 GBP mark - which is around 675%.

I suppose that I should have checked what currency car spare parts are traded in, but I'm lazy ;)

For expats with an income in Sterling that looks like a price decrease.

I'm not sure what it looks like to a TC on minimum wage though...

What is the point of fully comp insurance and why when you buy it do you have to buy 3rd party as well? As far as I have seen in the past 17 years if you’re in an accident with a Cypriot and you’re lucky enough for them to have insurance, never mind road tax or MOT, then the police will say it’s a 50/50 accident so you get to pay your own repairs anyway and if no police report you get nothing from your insurance! Not complaining, I live here and understand the system but have yet to hear about any insurance company that will pay up without a fight!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

I’m just curious about the price you have mentioned for Lurpak, you quote £1.68(at todays exchange) take it that is 250gram. so at the moment you don’t know what it has increased to, if at all. If that’s correct then that’s cheap. In U.K. at the moment Lurpak butter is £10 per kg.

I was showing how much the value of TL to Sterling has changed, compared to the change in the price of car insurance as quoted by Tiga

I never said that it was in increase -

You seem to have missed the part where I said

"For expats with an income in Sterling that looks like a price decrease."

and I also said

"I'm not sure what it looks like to a TC on minimum wage though..."

but thank you for doing the calculation for me ;)

Reyntj, thank you for pointing out the 'zillions' error :) I have ammended⁷ my original post.

That's what come of relying on a calculator rather than my brain - my bad!

However, the point that I was trying to make (very badly, apparently) is that prices - specifically car insurance, which I used as an example - have NOT gone up in real terms, for people with a GBP income at any rate.

It appears that we are both saying the same thing :)

Yes different prices, different sizes different stores, I was comparing to Asda and Sainsbury, mad prices.
