Re: Metahan crossing
Depends if you need a 16 hour TOM or you have a 1 year TOM, if you need the 16 hour one then go early as TOM only available between 08:00 and 14:30 Monday to Friday. The crossing road has changed - a lot - but it is easier now than it used to be provided you watch where you are going. The new roads are/were all open and clear last week when I went so getting to the North side crossing point is easy apart from the que - the other side is still the same with one booth open, sometimes two, but slow and tedious as normal. Hope this helps, we will go again tomorrow just because we can and see what it is like. Leave here around 07:00 and expect, after a wait at the TOM office to be in MacD's around 08:30!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Went through in a taxi at 9am Monday morning, 2 desks open, through in less than 4 mins, amazing!

Went last week about 11:30, clear both sides. Also, for first time ever was given 2 years TOM.

Re: Metahan crossing
morning all.
I seem to remember some time ago there was a ruling/requirement to have to have an eye test by a Greek optician if you are over 70 before you could go over the boarder. Is this still the case.
Also I note people saying about the 16hr visit what is this please?? Thanks

Re: Metahan crossing
I am surprised with so many of you going over the boarder that there are no replies to my last email. I just do not want to go all the way to the boarder only to get turned back. Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Re: Metahan crossing
Well I’ve been crossing the border many times since passing the age of 70 and have never been queried regarding age on my driving licence.
I have used both a U.K. licence and an Irish one - the latter especially so since the Brexit nonsense kicked in regarding TOMs (now having an Irish passport also helps in this regard!).

Re: Metahan crossing
I have been asked once! As I have my eyes tested in the South every two years and carry my last prescription with me I had no problem - BUT - I have never been asked in the last 5 years!! I understand that the Turkish Cypriots have a different story to tell mind you.
