Re: Karpaz Donkeys question
Absolutely heartbreaking. Such gentle and trusting animals.
A mother was shot and killed whilst giving birth.
Whoever did this needs to be found. They will kill again.
Cowardly, cruel and utter morons.
A very upset BBB's other half.

President Tatar said, “I have learned with sorrow that 14 of the Karpaz donkeys, which have become the symbol of Karpaz and our country and are indispensable for tourists, were slaughtered by being shot with a hunting rifle from a close range, knowingly and willingly. This heinous incident has deeply wounded my heart, as it has every conscientious person.”

Re: Karpaz Donkeys question
Does that make it better? No it does not, shocking, this country is probably the worst place I have ever lived. Having worked in Afghanistan for 3 yrs, Jordan for two years and Kosovo for over a year, I have never known anything like it!!

Re: Karpaz Donkeys question
Well thank you for NOTHING. You said much the same when poisoned dogs were found all over the place some years back, What was done, again NOTHING. This is becoming a horrible cruel country and the locals and Government appear to be doing NOTHING about it. I know the UK has masses of faults and but is becoming preferable to the TRNC.

Turkish Cypriots are a people who love animals and humans, and the social attitude they have displayed is proof of this. The Animal Welfare Law, which was unanimously enacted by our Grand Assembly on March 4, 2013, for the safety of our animal friends and their existence in a healthy environment, should be our compass at this point. I have full faith that the perpetrators of this outrageous incident will be identified by our police immediately and brought to justice. “As President, I would like to state that I will closely follow the outcome of this incident.”

Tashkent are horrified, I hope they get support to follow through the death of 14 donkeys and it isn't just brushed under the carpet. The picture of the Jenny giving birth, showing the foal I hope gives those responsible nightmares. I can accept crops can be ruined BUT for goodness sake this is not the way to stop it if it was done for this reason.

Reactions to the massacre in Karpaz are growing like an avalanche...
Headlines in the papers, I really hope it's not forgotten , things need to change.

I find it difficult to put into words my feelings on this horrendous and vile act. It's difficult to comprehend how someone can commit such an act on defenceless creatures. I am not in the least surprised there is such a public outcry. Those responsible do need to be caught. Must have been horrendous for those coming across those poor animals.

Re: Karpaz Donkeys question
This really is upsetting news. Its hard to believe anyone could commit such an evil act. If they can do that then they could do the same for humans, lets hope they are caught very quickly and dealt with strongly in court.

Re: Karpaz Donkeys question
Having lived here as long as I have I believe the extended family syndrome will come into force , it always does. The same with a goat herd in Lapta years ago, everyone was aware who was responsible for mass poisoning of dogs, (including some expats and the police) Question "has anyone seen him putting poison down" NO?. So we can do nothing without proof.

What a lot of good that was and a whole load of BS from the powers that be. According to Cyprus Today, if indeed they are found guilty they will only be given a fine equivalent to three or four times the monthly basic pay rate. They will probably appeal and get away with murder. Anything to do with cruelty is NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY regardless of what the locals maintain is the case. Everyone knows everyone else as usual.

Re: Karpaz Donkeys question
Apparently the law is being changed due to the uproar regarding the donkeys, but too late for this lot.
As for the driver who fled the RTA (possibly due to being under the influence of drink or drugs), it's a woefully short sentence, and driving sentences causing injury or death, when the driver was at fault, really need reviewing, they are far too short in my opinion.
