Mud lorries

Hi everyone.

It is almost a year ago that mud lorries started dumping mud etc. into a local ravine.

On average there are about 15 heavy lorries every day working up to 15 hours, 7 days a week. Very often they are still tipping at 9pm. No stopping for bank holidays.
Once they have tipped their loads they attempt to break the land speed record to return for another load.
They have ruined the tarmac road surface and it's now dangerous for other vehicles.

As they pass the amount of dust blown over us is appalling but they don't give a damn.

We have not been able to open a house window all year. Every day the pool , our car , the house and patios are covered in thick grey dust which is affecting our health , both mental and physical.

We've tried complaining to the local council which is a complete waste of time as they are also not interested.

After the heavy rains of 2019 and the car being washed off the Lefkosa raod wasn't the filling in of ravines supposed to be banned ?

Anyone thinking of making Hell Drivers 2 should get in touch.

I can find you 15 candidates for lorry stunt drivers. They can drive fast for 15 hours and eat, drink and use their phones without stopping.

Does anybody think they are safe on the roads ?

inverno, you have my sympathies here in Alsancak. We had that for nearly two years when 11 lorries continually did as you describe from 7am until it was too dark to see. We couldn't open windows, hang washing out,plants covered in thick dust, pool was in a dreadful condition and spent a fortune on eye drops. Anyone with asthma would have had to move out. We live on a corner where two of them would pass. Pictures in the house wouldn't hang straight and hairline cracks appeared in some of the bedroom walls. In our case they were flattening a small mountain/large hill in order to eventually build three ginormous houses. We had a few months break, but no longer, as huge JCB's and endless concrete lorries drive up the man made road in order to build said properties. I understand the drivers are paid by the lorry full, hence the murderous speeds they drive.

So sorry to hear that you are suffering with very similar problems as us.

Yes the drivers get paid by the load so drive like maniacs to get as many loads as possible tipped.
The noise they make driving past is terrible.

We keep hoping that one day soon it's going to stop but not holding our breath !

You say that that all the mud, soil is being tipped into a ravine. That is exactly what happened for two years and eventually we discovered that what is now a very nice and attractive bridge, was being built, with water that poured down from the mountains directed underneath the bridge. Ask around cos you might discover you are going to have a bridge as well.

Wanderer, as soon as I started reading inverno's opening post I remembered Hell Drivers. Not from 1957 of course, as Marty McFly would say, "I saw it on a re-run", I'm only 28

Sounds like we had it not nearly as bad in Esentepe Summer of 2023 - concrete lorries pumping into foundations up to 11.30pm seven days a week. The noise of the lorries struggling to go up the hill by the Martyrs of Democracy monument was bad enough not to mention the constant awful smell of the carcinogenic diesel fumes. Fortunately we had a choice and sold up for other reasons as well. Unfortunately not everyone has that option but I sympathise with all.

Hi everyone.

It's exactly a year today that our nightmare commenced with noise and dustcouds from the convoy of idiots driving the mud lorries past our house.

Coughing, sneezing, breathing problems and constantly sore eyes are a few of the symptoms that we are forced to endure.
They are still going at it hammer and tongs at past 9pm. Driving up a goat track in the pitch dark to tip their loads, then race back as fast as possible to get another load.

The road outside has become far worse with a large area of tarmac scuffed up. They are now driving 13 hour days now
at break neck speeds and they cannot be safe.

Surely the local Belidere wouldn't jeopardise the long term health of its good residents for the financial gains it produces for allowing the mud to be tipped on it's land.

I realise you are venting your frustrations here, it's so unfair but this is not a forum that garners much attention from the powers that be... use the official portal...

You need to be at home when you use it as it requires access to your GPS location to determine the relevant authority to aim your complaint to...

They then issue with a number that identifies your issue - it does get their attention... good luck!

Many thanks for your kind reply and advice which we will look at.

Yes it makes us angry and frustrated to be on the receiving end of this nightmare which lasts 7 days a week.
Even one day a week off would be something to look forward to !

We are in total disbelief that our lives suddenly changed overnight and the perpetrators don't give a damn.

It's just the way it is here and certainly the locals seem to accept it as normal.

We made contact with the Mayor who asked us to send photos on their new app and someone would visit us.
No response and no visit, as expected !

It's a battle that we know we can't win but just a warning to everybody out there that it could well happen to you.
