Mr Pound
When you are next in there, don't imagine you can pop into the coffee shop for a reasonable priced snack. I went in this afternoon and paid the equivalent of 19.60 pounds for two pieces of carrot cake and two Nescafe. Won't do that again in a hurry.

Clonk! I just passed out!
I think I might really if I got a bill like that. Words fail me, for once, before anyone says anything.

Hope it was a lovely piece of cake!
I am assuming around 440tl a piece with coffee 130tl?
Cappuccino must be now more towards 300tl now, used to be 250tl

Re: Mr Pound
Ah well, we all make mistakes. Still a bit steep for Nescafe and cake to me.
I checked my receipt as went into Cortado coffee shop at the very end of Erulku block yesterday to buy coffee beans. We had an Americano 210TL and hot chocolate 250TL, no cake, comes up as £7.79 at todays rate. I never look at cakes, so couldn't have told you price, but my friend tells me they were in the region of 250TL. Thank goodness neither of us has a sweet tooth, especially yesterday when it was my turn to pay.

Contacted a daughter who lives near North Norfolk coast, she reckons 22 pounds approx, using filter coffee and other daughter lives between Cambridge and Newmarket and reckons you can add another 2 pound to that, assuming you have any change from filling your car up. Lasangne looks good but a bit too filling for me. alphamike, won't say how much cakes were, I don't want you falling about again.

Re: Mr Pound
Quite a hike on UK price, even allowing for price to be steeper due to importing.
I remember a few years ago seeing a bag of cheese stuffed breaded jalapenos, which I love. Went to pick them up and realised they were around £20! I didn't bother. On the good side it made me make my own, which am sure where a lot better, but a bit of a faff.

Ouch! I am obviously a bit out of touch with coffee prices in UK, didn't think they were as steep as that when I was over about 6/7 months ago, course I didn't have cake.
The coffee beans I bought were 1500TL/£25.42 a kilo which are on the expensive side, but I can't live without my coffee. I did get around 14% discount though as I bought 2 kg, bringing it down to £21.86 a kilo. Had to ask for discount this time, whereas last time I automatically got it.

I think the average price for two coffees and a single piece of cake would be about £10 tbh. In Scotland anyway! You can get a fine scone for maybe £2 or a bit more !

Re: Mr Pound
Here's a rough guide for 2026, depending on where you go:
Budget end (McDonald's, Greggs)
2 coffees: ~£4.40–£5.00
Slice of cake/traybake: ~£1.50–£2.50
Total: roughly £6–£7.50
Mid-range chains (Costa, Caffè Nero, Pret)
Flat whites at Costa run about £3.35 and Caffè Nero around £3.25 (workingfromcoffeeshops) , so two coffees would be £6.50–£7.
A slice of cake at these chains typically costs £3.50–£4.50.
Total: roughly £10–£12
Premium end (Starbucks, GAIL's)
Starbucks charges around £3.65 for a flat white, and GAIL's reaches £3.80 (workingfromcoffeeshops) , putting two coffees at £7.30–£7.60.
Cake at GAIL's or similar quality spots can be £4.50–£6.
Total: roughly £12–£14
Independent cafés vary widely but tend to fall somewhere between the mid-range chains and premium end — expect to pay around £10–£13 for the same order.
So as a ballpark, £10–£12 is a pretty typical spend for two coffees and a slice of cake at a standard UK café in 2026.

Thanks Frugal, good to have a bit of a comparison, definitely UK prices here for coffee and cake these days. Will just have to lump it and keep doing without the cake (no great hardship), now a scone and butter, I might be tempted.

Costa Coffee(Kent) Medium Latte is £3.90 at the moment and pastries are £2.60, cakes vary up to £4.50. A Mozzarella Tomato and Pesto Panini is £5.00 except the tomato has now been replaced with a Tomato paste....A large Latte in M&S is £4.10 and a scone is £2.60. M&S have increased the price of their coffees 3 times last year and once, so far, this year...Such a variation in all outlets and quality and quantity matters, things getting smaller.

Ahaaaa. the infamous shrinkasion. There are a few places here who are starting to practice both. Gloria Jeans for one. I do use them sometimes though because their huge arm chairs and sofas are very comfortable and I make use of their free library .!!

Do you use the Everup cashback app? If you use Costa regularly you get 9.2%. No good for anyone in TRNC though, sorry.Dalartokat wrote: ↑Sat 14 Mar 2026 8:29 pmCosta Coffee(Kent) Medium Latte is £3.90 at the moment and pastries are £2.60, cakes vary up to £4.50. Was that a slice or a whole carrot cake? I'd be expecting a whole one for that. Well, if I ate the stuff that is.
Excellent, that's a much better price, especially with free biccy thrown in.
Good to know that you got a mug too, I'm fed up of getting these stupid paper cups in the places I've been recently. I do know there are places that give proper cups and mugs, just not in the dashed places I've been visiting.

Who'd have thunk, a cup/mug of coffee would generate so much interest. Shall I mention how much it cost me to fill up my little 1200cc 11 year old year MitsubishI yesterday??? No perhaps not!! Although the bloke said they increase the price EVERY DAY.

Go next door for cappuccino, the best I have had for a long time at Master Roaster. You only get what you pay for so pay for something good then you have no need to complain or compare!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.
