Went there with friends last night. Arrived at 7pm having pre booked and ordered drinks
Then we ALL ordered a starter of smoked Salmon then 2 fish dishes and a steak.
Within the next HOUR we asked several waiter where our starters where? Smoked salmon is cold and not exactly rocket science to prepare!!We got the usual North Cyprus shrug and one waiter actually laughed when I said we have been waiting an hour for our starter!
Then low and behold at 8.15, it arrived, OUR MAIN COURSE. When we said we had had no starter they were going to take it away and bring the salmon!!.We declined this and ate the main courses. The steak was OK ,but one of the fish dishes was over cooked and my fillet of fish was stuffed with prawns with the shells still intact inside the fillet.
To cut a long story short on leaving I spoke to the owner and complained about the service. After a long discussion with the waiters involved he offered to give us OUR NEXT MEAL at 50% discount. Needless to say, they are still waiting for their tip.
I am sorry Missina ,but you will not be seeing me or my friends again.

Thank you Soner, Friends say I am too critical and should just accept that this is Cyprus!!! and that is the way it is. Sorry I disagree and have usually had good service in restaurant here.l

I agree with you and your reaction. If its all that bad then should complain and spread the word. What I cannot believe is the waiter(s) just laughed at you when you asked about your starter. Oh my goodness, I am impatient and then someone to laugh at me would have really set me off. I was wondering about this restaurant too.

When we first came here Missina was considered the place to go for Fish. Even then the service was absolute rubbish and it beggars belief that the place is still going. I can't understand why.

Ditto, Sophie. We had bad experience at Messina in 2009 and haven't bothered since. If you go to eat next door (where it's always busy) you notice how quiet Messina is.

we went there last month and it was pleasant. the offer was a set menu with a local drink and later on they offered a local drink on the house and two of us had a brandy. When I got the bill, they charged for the two brandies and one of us had a galibu (local) not Malibu and they charged for that also. Walked calmly to the bar to speak to the owner who had forgotten his English understanding so I called over our waiter. It was explained that they had supplied us with Malibu and two south Cyprus brandies. Politely told him that they were on the house and deducted them from the bill. The owner shrugged his shoulders and said ok eventually. The waiter was embarrassed with what he had done. We had a good evening and in fairness the service was ok. They saw an opportunity but fortunately I had my reading glasses in my pocket. Will I go there again I may but unlike a few years ago it is now towards the bottom of my desirable restaurants. Also, letting the locals smoke inside the building put me off. Wish there was transparency over the smoking laws, please, no need to respond I know !
