New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
Hi Kibkomers,
I have created 2 new categories to help relieve the General page of the forum and to hopefully help members find what they need or are interested in by going directly to that Kibkom "Category" of interest.
The 2 new categories are: "Tradesmen" and "Lost & Found"
I hope these new categories will be of great use to members.
Please may I take this opportunity to remind all members of the three useful links just below the navigation on top right of each page: "View Unread Posts", "View New Posts" and "View Your Posts" - do make use of these links and you will not miss anything - you just never know.....

I don't envy you Soner, it's a difficult task trying to please everyone. I think you have done the right thing.Soner wrote:Kibkomers, apologies for the change in plan...but in order to maintain peace and fairness on this forum, please post all new threads in the appropriate categories. If people are looking for lost pets, or have found strays, need a dentist or plumber, or wish to discuss such matters in depth, it is a simple enough matter to go to the appropriate category.
I know initially, it will entail extra work for the mods but I am sure us KIBKOMERS will soon get the idea. Regards.
Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Agree with Blue Butterfly. Once in operation, it will make it much easier to find what we actually want to read about without endless trawling of adverts for business, entertainment and lost and found animals and make it easier for those who do want all those things to find the relevant place for all the information under one section, instead of going through all the posts to find them. Well done Soner, don't suppose you will please everyone with the decision, but then you will never be able to do that.

Re: New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
I have noticed that most of the band posts or animal posts get moved straight away, yet the wanted English Baker is not under Jobs, or wanted, or tradesmen, there are numerous posts on pools and pool topics, that are not under pools, internet posts not under the internet sections, I appreciate that the mods have a hard job to do, but if the Events and animals are strictly monitored then so should the rest. Or else maybe we don't need as many topics, just keep the ones that are used a lot, like the animals and events, before long there will be that many topics that there wont be anything left for the General forum. Just my opinion

New categories!
Confession time. As a Mod I do little moving around of topics, i do confess, but keep more of a watch on content via new posts. But having said that, because I virtually only ever read 'new posts' I am starting to wonder just what does remain for the General forum. Is this (dear soner) to be chit chat and discussion with everything else being categorised. I agree it might be confusing, but I agree even more that you (as the boss man) have an onerous task, especially with Mods such as I.
Personally, I like reading new posts because I am rarely looking for anything in particular, but soemthing might catch my eye. For instance this morning a 2 seater leather settee is for sale. Now I might have wanted that, but decided against it because of my animals, but I am half considering getting one, but the other half that is not considering won't bother to go to the For Sale section.
It would certainly be a help to me as a Mod Who Fails to know how others feel - not to be going contra to Soner but to receive honest feedback which will help us all.
Confession over and now I must work- slorry no time for Moderation, except as St.Paul said 'in all things'. Maybe that is why I am not a dynamic moderator cos I use moderation in my use of time!

Re: New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
Trying o make this work, and I think members will get used to it, eventually. I have moved more posts to respective categories and hope that members will help also by thinking about the thread that they are about to create and post it in the correct category. I had noticed that some new comers have posted in the wrong categories so have moved but left a ghost link so that they know it has been moved - hopefully they will get the hang of it too.
Maybe, I can create another link at the top just above the General Category link for either Unread Posts or New Posts - although they already exist at the top right of each page.
Members suggestions welcome.

Re: New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
Probably because I am a 'lazy' if regular browser, I preferred the original system where all sorts of topics were posted in the general category.
If some are moved after 3 days to a more appropriate category so be it but it did give a chance for all to view and for the poster to be assured that the topic had a wide airing.

Re: New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
I am like Marion and Genghis and like to see all the new posts, it is then up to me if I want to read the post from the subject title, if I don't want to open a post that I know is animal or event related then I don't open it. I personally think that there are too many categories and the general forum will suffer. There a lots of posts on Residency but not a category for them. Maybe go back over all the categories and post topics and see which are the most popular/unpopular and leave them and get rid of the rest. Tradesmen for instance, I think should be entitled Recommendation, Renewable energy has 0 posts so do you need that. Shipping has 6 posts, is that needed. I think the General Forum is very quiet and getting boring. Hope this hasn't offended anyone.

Re: New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
I am of the same mind. Being basically somewhat lazy, I like to look up a forum and see what is being discussed what did not interest me yesterday just might today, but I am not going to go searching in the various categories to find what just MIGHT be of interest today. If it is all on one page, it is easy to scroll, and I don't have to wonder as to what subject it is under.
But maybe that is just me, Ghengis and Lor. Come on the rest of you. I know that soner wants to get it right because it is important to him, whilst we all appreciate one cannot please all the people all of the time.
But why oh why cannot EVERYTHING BE LEFT ON THE GENERAL, and then if one wants to search specifically go to the other category of your choosing. Oh and another thing I said to Soner is that for me it would help if the ca\tegories were in alphabetical order. i wanted to find out about a place to rent for so meone and saw property, sales but did not see accommodation. Silly me!

Re: New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
I can appreciate that not everything can be left in the general, but I do think that some of the categories can be linked and others got rid of. Bars and Restaurants could be under 1 title, internet, mobile phones, satellite TV could be under 1 title, someone was selling a mobile phone so should it be under for sales or mobile phones? A charity event or a thank you for donations, does it come under events or charity & society? Property Sales and Accommodation could be joined and given another title like homes, or housing or whatever. if I lost a dog would I put the post in pets or lost and found? Kittens in my engine, Pets or Motors, (I put it in pets) Just my thoughts

Re: New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
Sorry Soner but I agree with them . I found it easier and more interesting seeing most things on one page . I cant be bothered to go searching all over the place to see whats happening . I understand that they were moved after a few days and that was fine , if I was that interested then I would look for it again .
I don't come on here as much lately because of the changes , I suppose I would get used to it , but do I really want to ?
I sound like Marion now ending on a question

I agree too, I liked it the old way, will talk to moderators and may change back....but I hope people do not complain about whose post has moved and whose hasn't - this was the problem we were having.

Why not move ALL post into the correct category after say 3/4 days,or is that too difficult? If a poster wants to bring BTTT then they can post( see such and such a category)

Can't help but reiterate that I owuld like to see a permanent duplicaton. the general to contain everything, and then the specific to have what applies in there. that way I don't miss anything interesting, but know where to go to look for specifics.
and I am not ending with a question this time!!!!!!

So, I was hoping for an answer from the forum to my question on pools. Its now been moved to pools, what chance now of people looking in pools to answer my question, none!

Re: New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
For what it is worth these are my views on the subject:
1: Keep the board simple.
2: Make sure posters accurately indicate what they are trying to convey in their thread title.
3: There is another board that boast's over 2000 members but you are lucky if you see 5 of them post on any one day. So more needs to be done to encourage existing members to post.
Once a board starts to die believe me it will die because the less people post then the less people will read and then the less people will post. It is a depreciating never ending circle.

Ajay, thanks for the good advice.
As to other forums boasting about amount of posts, I do not do this....I think the Kibkom Forum speaks for itself. Hopefully members will continue to make it more useful.

Re: New Categories on Kibkom Forum.
Soner- I think the new categories thing is great, and I now use the view new posts and view unread posts all the time which gives a better overview of the forum as a whole.
The only minor downside is that there are something like 30 different categories in total, which I think would mean that folk that stick to the main page miss out on a lot of stuff.
Would it not be possible to 'lump certain categories together to simplify browsing, and better still is it possible to have a 'folder tree' type arrangement whereby if you clicked on a main heading of,'For Sale' for example, could this not have sub headings of maybe-Property,cars,and other stuff(maybe for sale /wanted could be used as a major heading which would encompass quite a number of current categories)?
Another example is that there are currently a number of separate categories for things like-Mobile phones, satellite TV, Internet, renewable energy etc. etc.
Could these not go under a main heading of ,lets say-'Technology', with if possible a folder tree when clicked on with sub categories.
I reckon that with this arrangement the number of headings on the main page could be reduced to about 6, from 30,thus making navigation easier.
And I assume that would allow you to make the main headings more prominent, given that there would be a lot less and therefore more space.
Just a thought.
Hope this helps

Philoz, did you read message 11 and some of the others before you posted, or did you miss them cos you went straight to new post or unread post, not trying to be funny or anything its a genuine question.

Philoz / Lor51, I agree and will look into reducing main page with categories by creating sub categories.
