The Karsiyaka Tea Leafs

If you live in or around Karsiyaka you will know who I mean, often seen with their grandmother.
Numerous people have had their homes broken into by these two, including us (twice). They have been to jail several times but I would guess their joint brain cell does not associate this as punishment. The most recent visit from what we can gather is for beating up grandmother.

They are currently walking around with a dog on a rope. So be on your guard, batten down the hatches and leave nothing loose.

I believe these people are well known in the area, and I have friends who were victims of them. However, the thing that is very important is that the moment anything is seen as suspicious PLEASE CALL THE POLICE. It might mean that they go to jail agian and at least every day spent in jail is a day that the locals do not have to fear for their property.

Also, I wonder if the other posting here is this family? please, if anyone sees or hears of anything suspicious call the police, or get someone who speaks turkish to do so. I often find it difficult when I do phone the police station in getting anyone with sufficient knowledge of English, plus hanging my head in shame that i have not bothered to learn the language here. Culpa meum!

I caught the old lady wandering around my garden on Saturday - the boys were not obviously around. I took her photo and pretended to call the police and she gave me a mouthful and made a throat-cutting gesture before leaving. I watched her down the street and she looked like she was going onto other properties until I shouted at her. Eventually she disappeared. My neighbours later told me they found her sitting on their doorstep - presumably just before she came to me.

These 3 are a very real danger and my TC friend says the boys can be extremely vicious and should never be approached. He also said that they hang around in the background while the old lady scouts potential targets.

It is the nature of we English to be sympathetic to apparent ill-luck and poverty, but in this case it would be a big mistake. We also make a point of warning holiday renters as soon as they arrive.

Obviously no proof but there is another thread running of a house broken into in Karsiyaka.
If you are calling Lapta police and you are certain it is this group and you have a difficulty with language, the name of the family is Karadag. The police will then know who you mean.

If you are not sure of who they are, there is grandma, one young man under 5 feet in height and Sturdy. The other about 5 feet 3 and slim. Both I would say at best are ugly!! All the people in the village know who they are and some have already dished out summary justice but neither that nor jail stops them.

If they are not TC, why aren't they deported ? If they are TC then the rest of us are onto plums!

Simple answer, I asked after we were broken into. The family is Turkish but these two were born here.

so why are't they punished? Maybe more people should talk to the police, and what aout th minicipaity, the Mayor etc.

They have both been to jail several times. No doubt they learn even more in jail!

I would guess that the penal system is the same as the UK in that what they steal is considered petty and therefore does not invoke long sentences. Each time they return there is a collectively holding of breath around Karsiyaka awaiting the next crime.

We know that they have taken beatings from people in the village but I think if any foreigner tried it they would be locked up PDQ. Just have to wait and let natural justice take its course.

Cyprusishome and JBA thank you so much for informing all Karsiyaka Kibkomers of the appearance of the Karsiyaka Tea Leafs. We too had a visit from the old lady on Saturday but just assumed she was lost, tho on reflection this was her 2nd visit in 2 weeks, but guess we never thought the reason behind her visits was a possible break-in. Since reading your warnings all doors and windows have been battened down and we'll not hesitate to call the police should she decide to make an appearance again!!! good luck with calling the police ! when my husband saw them breaking into a property(they had already "done" the one next door) the police were called and HE was summoned to the police station with passport ...as though he was the villain !...

We had a good response from the police on both occasions. I was in police station when they were taking one of these creeps away and the treatment handed out was quite appropriate!!!!!

Why whenever you have to go to the police station here for any genuine reason are you always made to feel that you are the guilty party???

Yes, I agree that one is made to feel the guilty party. It has happened to me twice - and it always makes me SOOOO angry that they want my father's details when he has been dead for 35 years! But sometimes one getsa policeman who is warm, compasisonate and understanding, and one is made to realise they are on the side of right! so, try to have faith in the system. I do, even though it is a bit of a challenge.
