Residency question
I went to our Muhtar this morning to renew our residency letter for this year. I had to return this afternoon to collect the new papers and find that this year's copy does not have any stamps (postage) unfortunately the Muhtar was not there for me to query this. I asked his assistant who spoke little English and am not sure I made myself understood but she said it was ok. Has anyone done this recently and found it to be the same as I don't want to go to Lefkosa only to be told that the Muhtar should have put on stamps as in previous years. Many thanks.

Re: Residency question
My mukhtar in Zeytinlik does not charge or issue stamps so just go and get a 2tl stamp and stick it on yourself which is what I do. Regards, Mrs Snakes.

Re: Residency question
Thanks Mrs Snakes the only problem I have with that is that he usually initials the stamps. He also charges 15tl for each copy for my husband and myself so feel sure he should be supplying stamps in that price if they are necessary. Mrs. Boerboel

Re: Residency question
Our muhtar has not put stamps on for a couple of years. You just have to go buy one and stick it on. does not have to be signed over.
There is no rule on what the Muhtar does or how much he charges, Karsiyaka charges 10tl each then buy 1.5tl stamp. A lot less than 15 quoted above!!!!!

Re: Residency question
I did my renewal recently and we were just reminded at the police station that we needed 2TL stamps for each letter. We just bought them at the cafe by the market and stuck them on in front of the policeman and it was fine. No need to return to your muhtar.

Re: Residency question
What a crazy situation!!! Nobody will give a definitive answer on stamps, as usual. I think it is just an excuse to raise money.
joandjelly, we did ours in April, bought stamp at post office and stuck it on, 1.5tl, and it was not queried, police officer just checked there was one. Last year put 1.3tl on form as that appeared the norm asking around friends.
The only definitive was for the stamp togo on passport - 9tl. Or was it 12, no it may have been a rubber one. Sorry!!!!!!

We did ours on Monday, the Muhtar charged 10tl each and then we needed a 2tl stamp for each letter, the stamps do not need to be initialed by the Muhtar,we got ours from the Post Office and put them on ourselves. Arrived at residency office at 13.40 and left at 14.00, all done and dusted.BOERBOEL wrote:I went to our Muhtar this morning to renew our residency letter for this year. Re: Residency question
We did ours at the beginning of July. Our Muhktat never charges. He does not put stamps on and when we went to the residency office, they just said, get 2TL stamps from the Cafe with our 10TL stamps for the residency. All sorted very quickly.
We also asked again about getting a residency as we are both over 60 and do not have a driving licence, he said really we did not need to do this, but if it makes you sleep easier, then do it!! As we had geared ourselves up to it all by then, we got a 1 year visa. He suggested, that we use this year to listen everywhere and ask everybody and if we hear of no problems in the next year, that should be enough to assure us, to not bother again. He also sent us to the information office, and they said the same. We now will not apply for a residency visa again unless we hear of real problems or changes.
