Buying a car.
Does anyone know where I have to go to register a car I have just bought?
Directions would be appreciated.

Re: Buying a car.
Hi there, since you already bought the car, you must have been given the transfer forms too.. You need to have those forms signed by your Mukhtar and theoretically take the forms to Vehicle registration office in Lefkoşa, around old CTA office, near Turkcell head office or around Merit Hotel, Nicosia...

Yes we have got the transfer form signed by the Noter and want to get it registered on Monday but unfortunately I do not know any of the buildings mentioned. Could you give more detailed directions please.

Re: Buying a car.
Main drive into Lefkosa
Straight over rocks on sticks roundabout
Past hospital(on left)
Over next roundabout
after some lights (cant remember exact number)
Traffic starts to merge from the left and cease the traffic up and you will see a st of lights 200yds ahead keep in the nearside lane
straight over the lights keep in nearside lane of dual carriageway
The next major lights have the KHTY(Cyprus Turkish airlines) deserted offices white building
First left at lights after
The tax office is at the back surrounded by dirt car parks
The office has a selection of ticket machines for the various things you can do to get you in the queue
Ask advice of officials or one of the many motor traders which ticket to get
Good luck

Re: Buying a car.
It may not be fact but I read somewhere that the girls at the driving school near the police station in Girne would do it all for a small fee, worth asking if it might save you the drive to Lefkosa.
Also, if the car is second hand, it would be a good idea to take your documents to the police station to check that their are no outstanding fines etc, for which you would be liable.

Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Also if you have a partner, spouse etc.Get all the names put on the log book.No matter whether they drive or not.If one of you snuffs it and the other's name is not on the log book the car cannot be sold without going through probate.Mine took 8 months and that was fast!!!
