Sad news......Pembe from the Dunya Restaurant, Karaoglanoglu

Although the Dunya Restaurant has been closed for a few years now, a lot of people will have eaten in Hassan & Pembes garden at sometime in their travels to Cyprus. Lovely people. Their restaurant was featured in 'The Rough Guide To Cyprus'.

The sad news is Pembe died on Sunday, the funeral was yesterday.

I will miss her, always smiling and waving at me. May she rest in peace.

Yes, that's the place. Sad news indeed, the restaurant was one of the real old Cypriot "character" eateries. We have had many a great evening there.

Once, because I refused the half pint of brandy on the house because I was driving, the owner plonked a bottle on the table and said "There. Drink that when you get home"!!!

RIP, Pembe, you will be remembered by many.

Yes, very sad news. We too have enjoyed the generosity of Hassan and the bottle to take home in years gone by. Dunya was certainly unique and we were sorry when it closed.
