People Needed
The Kyrenia Animal Rescue Centre has more than enough cats and dogs - now it needs PEOPLE.
PART TIME Staff - will need to enjoy hands on hard work with the animals. The hours are from 8am to 4pm (1 or 2 days per week) and transport can be arranged from East Kyrenia.
SMILEY Volunteers are needed to show visitors around the Centre at weekends. You need to be outgoing, friendly and like people as well as cats and dogs. This is a great chance to help out without having to be "hands on" . This will be for a Saturday and/or Sunday morning 9am - 1pm - maybe not every week if you prefer.
ODD JOBBERS needed - if you are handy with a hammer, pretty good with a paintbrush, or just hardworking and able then KAR has plenty of repairs and maintenance that need your attention. If you can spare ANY time to volunteer it would be a great help to KAR.
Please email or call the KAR office for more info or to discuss any of the above on 0533 8694098 or kar@kyreniaanimalrescue.org

Sorry Libby but at 13 she is too young - we know she is enthusiastic and would love the cats and dogs but her age is against her. Fingers crossed she will still be as enthusiastic in a couple of years time. Hug for Pin x

Re: People Needed
I am sorry but I can't understand. Why can't a 13 year old helpo out at KAR. As there are connections with schools etc, and as this is Cyprus where I thought the rules of U.K don't apply - why can't be come? At least surely she could be supervised by an older person? It seems a shame to turn down a willing volunteer, and especially someone as reliable as Libby's daughter.
And of course, I bet there are other youngsters out there who might like to volunteer too. Or is it the nature of the job.

I have to say, that on the face of it, I agree with Marion - at 13, I delivered groceries and a lot of my pals delivered newspapers - I think that the early experience of a work environment has stood us all in good stead (although I have had no difficulty at all giving up work for good! )
Of course, if the problem is something like insurance liability or the Law, then I would understand, but it would be good to know the reason.
Anyway, I do hope that you find someone 'suitable'.

Agreed, keith. It was those kind of experiences when young that taught us responsibility, commitment, and many other character traits that are vital in adult life.
Also I would like to know chapter and verse that says about age etc, in the law.

Re: People Needed
Libby,
Just to clarify - if Sacha would like to come up to the centre to help out, she is more than welcome. We have lots of puppies who need bathing or she can take some dogs for a walk. She can come up between normal visiting hours - 9am and 1pm, we will be very pleased to see her. Unfortunately we are only able to offer transport for staff and the pick-up times are not times when the centre is open to the public and volunteers.
The reason we said that she was too young for the roles we were advertising is because they are unsupervised roles i.e. DIY work and showing visitors round the centre/taking dogs out of runs for walkers.
Good to see that Pin held on to his 3rd Best KAR Dog position this year.
Best wishes
Hamish
NB Children are always welcome at the rescue centre, but they should be supervised by an adult. We have a number of school children who visit the centre and they are always accompanied by a member of our education team and teachers and/or parents. I'm sure you will understand the reason for this. Apologies for not responding sooner to the points being raised but Hamish has a lot of his time taken up with with the cats and dogs at the centre and is not always at a computer.
