Vegetables North Cyprus
There are so many vegetables in the shops that i do not have a clue about, i don't know how to cook them. Can anyone tell me if there is a book that would be helpful.

Try 'Kıbrıs Mutfağından tatlar - Tastes from Cyprus'. Dedicated to the women of Cyprus. It is in Turkish and English and with nice photos.
Don't know if the bookshop in Karakum has it. But you will be able to find the book in Lefkoşa. I also think Carpenters marked, but not sure.

Hi Numpty
I can also recommend this book, I borrowed it from a friend and it is very informative, because it is in turkish and english it is a good way to learn the turkish names for the ingredients. I also found that the turkish versions of things such as baking powder, yeast, etc are cheaper than the english brands but equally as good.
I,m not sure where you can get it from as my friend got it at one of the village festivals, but I am sure one of the local bookshops will have it.
Good luck, and Affiyet olsun.

Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Hi Numpty
If you are able to purchase a copy of this book could you tell us all where you bought it from. I would love a copy. Like you, I haven't the faintest idea how to cook some of these vegetables.
Cheers

Rüstem, big book shop in Lefkoşa, should have it. There is one more bookshop not to far from Rüstem, at a corner ( the book shop does not look of much, and I don't remember the name). They had the book last time I went there. Ore I can ask Akova Kadınlar Derneği.

In Famagusta, there is a shop called Champion Inn in the road leading from The Lala Mustafa to 'Petek's Cafe and the old Wall and big stone lion. It is on the left hand side and Hüseyin is the owner, he sells these books. Very nicely produced book, but if you are a total novice to Cyprus cooking, it does not always explain things well enough. More than once I had to double check with my Turkish friend.

I used to go to our local Bazaar and when I saw something I did not recognise, I asked them to write down the Turkish name. I then either asked my friends, or translated it on google and the found a recipe on google.
