Christmas Lunch, How was your's

We went to the Koreniun golf club for Christmas day lunch which was advertised as traditional Christmas fare of champagne/canapés before lunch then we had soup(tasteless),crab tower(I think it had crab in it),turkey main course( no roast potatoes/sprouts/pigs in blankets/stuffing/ or Yorkshire pud. and served with rice???? and baked spud, then trifle or Christmas pudding which was the worst I have ever tasted. Yes we have complained and sent an e-mail, the only day of the year we we're looking forward to a nice Christmas meal we we're very disappointed.

Cousins - excellent value for money. Good food and plenty of it. Had my sprout which I love, and plenty of turkey. Just conversation, although it did go a bit wrong towards the end of the afternoon, but really good value. So how much was the Korineum one? Maybe you were the end of a batch or some such. Can't understand how they could get it wrong. Will be interested to hear the answer.

I also know of someone who went to Freddie's Bar in Alsancak and were super pleased with what they got. Had so much food they reckoned they didn't need to eat the following day.

So what other stories are there?

Agree Old Dog, Al Shaheen Karakum excellent. They do everything so well. Parsnips, red cabbage with pine nuts, broccoli with ginger, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and proper turkey. All served up efficiently and with a smile.
Have done the golf club once but Al Shaheen is just so much better in the Christmas food stakes.

We paid £30 which included all local drinks, beer/wine & local spirits and all the tables got the same and we definately would have gone somewhere serving traditional Christmas lunch had we known before hand, how you can advertise it as traditional with not a roast potato/sprout/pig in blanket/stuffing/Yorkshire pud in sight is beyond me.

Acmenya was our choice. Really enjoyed the meal. A lot of effort went into making us welcome.
Also great value for money.....not sure if they came out making a profit though !.

We went to Al Shaheen too. The food was excellent and I can honestly say it was the best turkey I have ever had, so moist and a rediculously huge amount. Was completely stuffed by the end and couldn't even manage a mince pie!

I couldn't manage the mince pie either, but I managed the chocolates!
Proper white sauce with brandy was also my favourite Christmas pudding accompaniment.
Seriously well done Al Shaheen.

Went to friends in Lapta for an excellent lunch with all the trimmings, but prior to my husband dying, always used to go to Al Shaheen, best restaurant Christmas dinner.

Sorry post 14 that looks so sad and disgusting, I would have probably cried, Jonnie you spoilt things for me cos I was about to post he must have had his at home, but only cos only a true (even if left Britain) brit would know a true Christmas dinner, and just for info, we decided we would do our own, and sorry we felt it was the best, but we all have our own opinions!

Belkin I think we have done Al Shaheen four times now for Christmas but have also tried other restaurants in between, have to say we have not enjoyed the meals as much as the Al Shaheen ones. Simply excellent restaurant Christmas dinner. Well done to the A S team! Looking forward to New Year's Eve there too with the Shy Teds!

Deniz enjoy New year at the Acapulco. Look forward to hearing what it was like. Happy new year to you x

Had several pleasant Christmas lunches at the Fireman's Fez, then a couple at Happy Valley but since the Pork Shop opened thoroughly enjoy my Christmas lunch cooked with what I like and how I like. I can also enjoy the days afterwards as I do not have to worry about Food.
Must admit the last four years thanks to Soyz, Happy Valley, The Lodge and Adnan in the village for entertaining us throughout the day and evening its been a case of Liver Pate for Lunch (Happy Valley) and a delayed Christmas Lunch on Boxing Day. In my book far better, see more people, have what and when you like and the final plus enjoy Boxing day as well.

We must have done something wrong then, as we felt that Royal Spice (Al Shaheen) not up to scratch re the turkey. All we had were bits of broken up slices awash in gravy. The saussage was also under par and under cooked. Resembled the cheapest possible on the market. However, the prawn cocktail was the largest I've ever had and with a slice of decent brown bread it would have suited me down to the ground for the rest of the meal. Christmas pud was like rubber as well. At £23 it did not compare favouably with Acmenya. I've spoken to people who went to the Golf Club and they seemed to have the very worst of all. They also had to put up with a gang of men washing the windows as well!!!

We went to The Almond Village for the second year running. It was superb. The food was excellent,a very traditional Christmas lunch piping hot and plenty of it.The service, the staff and the entertainment from Ivan the Sax made it a very special day.All being well we will be returning next year.No complaints from us.

we went to the Colony for the second time and enjoyed the food - Christmas dinner, breakfast and lunch), two days in a spa with a sauna , a steam room and a massage(at a discounted price). Everything was very good/ the only thing that was annoying - a very, very loud music at Christmas dinner.

East Side, Bar-B Kuchuk Erenkoy. Our third year there, fabulous, exactly what the chef says on the label, Christmas Dinner with all trimmings. They only cater for 38 people so don't bother applying....they will be fully booked by end of Jan 2014 !

Glad you enjoyed the Acapulco, Happy New Year.

New Year's Eve at Al Shaheen provided yet another excellent meal, fillet steak was divine and with the Shy Teds playing it was a great evening
