Can anyone help computer crashed

I was having a RunDLL error pop up on my laptop screen and as time went on my laptop slowed down, dropped it in to laconic where they told me my hard drive had crashed and it needed formatting, it had now been formatted however they did not back anything up, is there any possible way i can retrieve the lost data.

Help would be appreciated, or to be pointed in the right direction to someone who knows laptops

You may be able to recover some of your files depending on what kind of 'formatting' they did at laconic (some will definitely be lost short of forensic examination as they will have be written over by the reinstall of windows).
