Blondie a tragedy in Lapta!

I know everybody gets fed up of doggie stories. But this morning in Lapta Blondie was eventually found by our neighbours in the holiday home villa next door when she didn't turn up for breakfast. She was bleeding from her mouth and head so it was assumed initially that she had either been in a fight with another dog or hit with a car. The owners of JK's bar were called as Blondie one of there best and well fed customers took her to Petcross vets.

To cut a long story short Blondie had been shot in the head she has lost part of her tongue some of her teeth and the vet is struggling to stop the bleeding and cannot get all the shrapnel out. A lady from KAR is taking her home tonight to look after her, so thank you to KAR.

Who are the b......ds that did this and how cruel can people be on this island. It beggers belief.

One of the reasons for this post is that KAR say they will pay for Blondie but if anyone can help and lets pray that Blondie survives donations can be made at JK's bar if not please donate what you can to KAR to help bring this lovely street dog back to full health.

How sad for Blondie, yes I will donate at the office tomorrow. Sadly if she does not make it, the money will still be put to good use. Who is this b------d walking around with a gun shooting animals? Before the anti canine brigade get on their high horse, yes I would do the same for a human in trouble. Come on Kibkomers!!!

Is this the police again, after the shooting of a couple of dogs on same area a couple of weeks ago? Horrific enough for dogs to be shot dead, but to imagine that they are being shot and left to suffer is beyond belief. Totally unacceptable whoever did this, will the suffering of animals here ever stop?

This is both sad and horrific but is not limited to this island. I was brought up in a rural part of the UK and it was common practice to shoot stray dogs on farmland. A dog worrying a sheep or goat will cause the animal if pregnant to abort which can lead to the death of both animal and offspring, a big cost to a goatherd on subsistence level living. This is also probably one of the bigger reasons for poisonings too.

I am not saying either is correct however shooting animals under such circumstances in the UK is still approved practice.

This is neither the UK or about the UK or a dog worrying sheep goats etc. This is about a street / community dog who is loved. well fed. front lined, wormed etc. It was / is Blondies choice not to live with any of us. She did not deserve to be shot in the face the way she was. I only saw her at the vets at 1600hrs at least 10 hours after my husband, neighbours and the owners of JK's bar got worried and found her. And furthermore I can only say that Cypriot neighbours and friends are totally disgusted by what has happened and that none of us heard the gunshots.

Funnily enough I am well aware this is not the UK. However it was mentioned that this is cruelty on this island, my point was that it is not just this island. Secondly I was giving a reason, not an excuse, as to why some dogs may be targeted, I was not justifying it either. You state that no-one heard gunshots, if that is the case perhaps the dog was not in the vicinity at the time therefore you do not know if it was worrying sheep or goats, or any other such thing.

I sympathise and also think it is sad and appalling that this should happen, all I have done is give one suggestion as to why this might be so. Similar things will continue to happen whilst there are strays on the streets here.

I couldn't believe it as I read the post. How could someone do that to a helpless animal, words cannot convey how I feel. I hope the vets can help her.

Blondie now how with us after we picked her up from KAR this morning, we never wanted another dog but looks like we may have one for the foreseeable future. She is a poor wee soul so nervous and timid where she was before this, friendly , a free spirit and just a nice dog. Don't know how to put pics on here but JK's bar have pictures on facebook as I have. Be warned they are a bit graphic.

KAR have paid the vet bills so a big thank you to them and to JK's bar owner Daren and Michaela. Daren now has a donation box on the bar to pay for any future vets bills so if you are passing please drop in and put the odd kurus that is lying at the bottom of your handbag or in your pocket. Thank you all for your good wishes and hoepfully Blondie will have a speedy recovery.

Just about to post, that I went to KAR office this morning as promised to make a donation. I was told then that she was up at the centre being cared for.Thank you so much Chris for taking her to look after. I am sure with a lot of tlc she will pull through.

Au contraire Tom. I think just about everyone agrees with you. Equally maybe that is a problem with street dogs, that they can be seen as a menace to someone protecting flocks. Don't know. But I cannot understand who would be carrying a gun around all the time. Heavy thing,s I thought.

Hi Marion, we live in the sticks between Bahceli and Tatlisu and have more shepherds/goatswains than you could shake a stick at in this area. In our 5+ years here, never have we seen a gun carried by flock protectors at any time of the year. Even the local farmers here just ask the dogs are leashed whilst near the farm, that's all. Whoever shot that dog is pure evil in natural characteristics/make up.

Understand what you are saying. I lived in rural Wales and my son in law was a sheep farmer, and apart form his losing his temper with a fox and wringing its neck, I never saw any cruelty to dogs. But then they were owned by someone and most of them were working dogs or kept firmly in their own territory. I had three dogs but within my own grounds with the sheep in the field next door.

And thanks for confirming that your shepherds don't carry guns. Nor does th eone down the road here who must be the last remaining shepherd in Alsancak. I am sure when he is gone the few remaining fields where his sheep graze (desperately!) will become concrete . This man carries a stick and nothing else.

But one cannot help but wonder if th e person who shot Blondie has a licence for the gun they used.

well done to all concerned with the welfare of this lovely dog (I met her on the Poppy walk) and especially to Chris for making room for a needy soul. Hope she recovers from her injuries and eventually regains some of her spirit and confidence. Hope the person who did this never has any good things in life again.

Blondie has this morning managed some breakfast and a drink. my husband has had her out on the lead a couple of times for the toilet and she walked not too bad but is very wary of being outside. She is adapting well to inside living but is still very sleepy and in obvious pain. The vet at a later state may have to x-ray her again as there may be shrapnel all over her body, Michaela from JK's very gently touched her side yesterday and she yelped in pain! She's not out of the woods yet but she's getting there.

p.s. JK's have a box on the bar called 'Blondies fighting fund' any money from this will be used for ongoing vets bills and care. My husband and I have been feeding her every day as have JK's for the last year so the money won't be used for food as we buy it anyway for her.
