Sad update about (Un) Lucky

I am really sad to report the latest news about (Un) Lucky. She has had to be put to sleep.
We had noticed recently that her behaviour was becoming more worrying. She has become very space protective and this had extended to being food aggressive. She was also becoming very unsocial with the other dogs - despite us trying new kennel friends for her. There were a few occasions when she had displayed aggression to members of staff but Centre staff felt there were other circumstances that may have played their part in that (we hoped).
Very recently her behaviour had become seriously worse and this culminated in a serious attack on another dog. It continued to serious aggression on the staff who were trying to deal with the situation. Following assessments and lengthy discussions it was felt that it was unlikely that a new home would be found for Lucky (especially following such ongoing problematic behaviour). It was also felt that everything had been tried by staff,at the Centre, to help Lucky adjust - to no avail. She just didn't like being there in that environment. She was very unhappy and was exhibiting that through her behaviour. Her behaviour was such that KAR could not envisage that it would alter in the Centre environment nor could we risk sending her to a new home (if one could be found in any event !) in case her aggression continued there.
It is always with great regret that decisions like this are taken, but in Lucky's situation, there really seemed no alternative.
Everyone at KAR is upset about it and no doubt forum members will be too. But we have to accept that although we try our best - for some dogs (and cats) it simply is not enough. We hope that Lucky is finally at peace. RIP Lucky .

Very sorry that you (KAR) had to make this sad decision. What a hard road you all have to travel in the name of the protection of the animals in your care.

You have done your best and the dog is now at peace. Please don't beat yourselves up about it.

What on earth would North Cyprus do without you?

I, for one am grateful that you are here for the animals.

Onwards and upwards! Or, as I used to tell my kids when they were heartbroken, chin up, chest out and move on!

I'm devastated, absolutely devastated. Such a sad ending for a dog who deserved better in life. What a pity a home couldn't be found for her after such a rotten start in life. Poor little Lucky.

What more could you have done, you would never have forgiven yourselves if she had attacked someone who tried to help her. Don't kick yourselves you have made the right decision. She is up chasing around the meadows in heaven.

So sorry that between us all we could not give the help Lucky so badly needed.
Hopefully Lucky is at peace now, lets just hope the scum that treated her so cruelly, will never be!!!
R.I.P. Lucky.

We know who shot Lucky and her sister, Poppy, but can't prove it. Just crossing fingers that karma gets them further down the line. It just seems that everything went wrong with timing for Lucky after she was shot, she started off as such a friendly pooch too.

Don't beat yourself up -you did your best to help this very unfortunate animal and it must of been a difficult decision for KAR to make.It can be a tough life for dogs over here but thankfully there are people like you, Kar,Bob and many more who care and in time will eventually make a big difference.

How sad

You made a difficult decision but ultimately the right decision not only for poor Lucky but all the other animals in your care.
There are events/situations in life that, despite how hard we try to solve those situations/events, they cannot be solved.
and it can be difficult to accept that.
As others have mentioned the stray animals would be worse off without KAR and all the people who give their time to improve the lives of dogs and cats.

It's a blessing to read good things being said about KAR, more often that not its complaints, criticisms and general moans "why don't they do this, why don't they do that", usually from people who probably don't lift a finger to help. Thank you, those of you above.
