As a word of caution for your dogs, is it wise to bring them here in the summer when it is so incredibly hot, as you will not be giving them any time to start to get used to the heat. A gradual build up of the heat is better for them. Good luck with the move.

I have just booked with Turkish Airlines to bring our Miniature Dachshund from Birmingham to Ercan.

Cost £152.00 One way.

They cost it as Cargo £8 per Kilo.

I looked at all other airlines and this was the cheapest way to do it.

Monarch from Luton to Larnaca wanted £347.00 !!!!!!!

Yes but large dogs are a different kettle of fish to a Dachshund. Small dogs can go as hand luggage but large dogs need specially made crates. We brought ours over with Airpets. They made all the crate and travelling arrangements. Give them a ring or speak to KAR who do this all the time.

Dear Panchocat : No they don't go as Hand baggae that is why I put "Cargo". Anything over 10 Kgs. has to go in the Hold not the cabin.

Turkish Airlines are very good.
We bought our dog over with them four & a half years ago.

lesshaw, Not certain but believe they have a size/weight limit. Ours was a big old girl but possibly not as big as a GSD. I'm sure KAR will be aware of this.

jiivehdist, I don't know if you have the long wait in transit between flights from Istanbul/Ercan. Be grateful if you do. Plenty of time to ensure your dog is transferred to the next flight.

I was in double panic mode & refused to get on the plane until I was certain she was on board. Blow the luggage transfer my only concern was my dog.

She arrived safe & sound at Ercan on the luggage carousel with the suit cases. Phew what a relief!!!

Good job you didn't book Luton to Larnaca because you would have one hell of a job getting the dog over the border, if in fact you could at all, unless you were one of these people who drug their dogs and stick them in the boot as friends of mine did. To this day, they are aware that I didn't (and still don't) approve of what they did.
