Guitarist/singer or keyboard player for trio invited to ....

Hi,
Our Trio, bass sax and drums, is working up the numbers, but we need one more musician to make a live working band ready for the coming Summer season.
If you play (or know of anyone) who is either a competent guitarist/singer or piano/keyboard player and are interested in trying out as part of a gigging band for the next 6 months minimum, please drop me a message.
Style will be pop covers ie blues, rock, soul, a little light jazz, swing and shuffle, dinner and dance music.
Best Regards & Thanks
TonyE

Barry, we would audition anybody !lol
The one thing I do miss here in the TRNC is the varied music scene that existed in the UK. Apart from seeing the pro big name bands regularly in London venues and provinces, I had the privilege of running the Basingstoke Moose Blues Jam for a year or so.
There we had upwards of 35 musicians on any Friday night, all fighting to get their 3 number spot on the stage, and usually the House band was only called for assistance in a dire emergency. And these guys were good.....they all had day jobs but played like the best of them, probably because in any given week, you could go perform at 8 jams within a 10 mile radius of home and get plenty of experience in front of a pub audience.
Retiring out here I had hoped there would be a plethora of retired old boys with their instruments, all looking to recapture their hey days, but it was not to be. I guess they have all gone to Prague now, at least that's where they all seemed to be when I visited last Xmas!
If we don't find our new guitarist or keyboard player soon we might have look for another brass member and do some Trad Jazz !

Tony Tony Tony ! jam nights are horrific ! a load of unrehearsed 12 bar blues people freaking out when they get their chance ! I personally hate them as they all sound the same this is the reason why I dont play in a band (yet !!! watch this space or Amphitheatre) ! Almost like when you hear a charity single with lots of celebs, they oversing so much in their 20 seconds of fame. Every band I have seen here, besides Turkish, play the same songs almost like a jam night and we know the reasons why !!! They are easy and everyone knows them ! "Mustang Sally" "Summertime Blues" a hoard of Quo stuff ! a few Beatles and Stones ! Its my opinion that the audiences here deserve something different (please note different, not better) A breath of fresh air ! Having a recording studio at home I am inundated with great singers to record cd's to supplement their earnings (legal or otherwise) with sales of these, and they all sing the same Bloody songs !!!so much so that I have said I have the backing tracks in my library (not for my use i add) ! There is great mileage in playing songs the audience want to hear and I condone this but everywhere you go just is a bit much ! Seriously I wish you every success in a market I have never experienced before in 46 years of being a professional musician and realise more than anyone the difficulties in finding like minded musicians here where as in UK (which we are not) you had them tripping up to get to you, which made my life hell, due to the amount of great guitarists etc ! also if I can be of any help please dont hesitate to contact me ! Good luck all involved regards Barry

Hi,
Interesting view, and not too far removed from my experiences.
There were two good things about the UK jams, (3 if you count the large number of muso's in the pile!).
a) it was a good place for the younger, or older but less experienced players, to get a chance to play live on a stage with the more experienced, and be supported (carried really) if and when they pulled a bum note or lost the groove.
b) the quality of some jams like the one at Medstead was exceptional. The house band is a pro group called Five Field Holler. Here people go to play with the pro's, and try to punch well above their weight. The musical breadth includes everything from Latin through Folk to Jazz to Blues and you get to do things that are both out of the rut, and usually out of your grasp lol.
My first venture in public was here, watched the house band, panicked and tried to leave just as my name was called when I saw the quality required; big hairy bikers arm across the door and a growled "get the girlfriend to get your sticks from the car, you're staying put"! ...Screwed up the first number by clattering all over the singers words, and learned fast from there with a bit of assistance.
So, yes jams can be hard and maybe tedious work, and repetitive for the dedicated few, but there is always an audience, willing to hear even another variation of Mustang Sally.
Anyway, there are not too many happening here so it may be a bid academic, but if you do find a versatile singer / guitarist who wants to make it happen with the Trio, please point him / her in our direction for a try out.
