Thank you for that, very informative. Any group who promotes good will between the ex pats living here and the local communities are to be applauded.

Is this organisation separate from the BRS? or do you still you have to be a member of the BRS in order to join? We were going to join the BRS but have now changed our minds after reading of the fracas at the recent AGM.

It would be better if you could contact Malcolm or Amanda for more detailed information about Making North Cyprus better.

Ref msg 52/152 above. Go to their web site page at http://mncb2011.com/. As a rule, they do not help individual cases, but are more involved in group causes.

For DB. I am a member of the BRS and have been so since my arrival 5+ years ago, I was present at the AGM and witnessed the debacle of your Vice Chairman and his cohorts hijacking the meeting and bawling for points of order and resignations before I left in disgust. I do not know you, nor do I know what you achieved (or not) in your past committee appointments. What I do know is that more had been achieved in the last year than in any other time since my arrival here. Plus the fact that spurious historical membership details and ? accounting should have been discussed, but the action of your 'fringe' committee prevented the debate and investigation needed. I doubt your new committee will have the creditability to take the BRS forward - despite your statement it will.

Sandman re your post i cannot agree more with your sentiments, I considered joining BRS around 6/7 years ago, the people i met who were running it at the then PEGASUS restaurant, took my breath away, "who Ray Henry's or last remnants of the Raj" they were the most obnoxious, rudest people I had ever had the misfortune to meet in many years. So we gave them a very wide berth........

Brit expats!!
Unfortunately TRNC is not a better place after years of brit expat influence
They bugger up their own country and then go off and spoil everything they touch.
I know that is a generalisation and most expats are decent people but there is a sizeable minority !!!!!!!!

They would not be tolerated in the UK, perhaps that's why they're here!

tomsteel & muppet....agree with your comments

Must say we were really considering joining the BRS - the only thing stopping us was wether the ex pat side of things would put us off joining. We try to avoid large gatherings of ex pats as we have found that the company is often not to our taste and conversation always edges on the side of moaning and how we can change things for the better....BUT the better is often not for the benefit of all including the local people. I am sure the vast majority are good, decent people but I will agree there is a very vocal minority who really give expats, especially the British a bad name.

Whilst we were not at the AGM having read what went on we have decided we will not be joining. No matter what statement is put out by the new chairperson and committee there is absolutely no excuse for the undemocratic way in which they gained office. Shouting people down in an orchestrated fashion without allowing normal debate and process to be followed is un - excusable. Reading between the lines it also seems as if some members of the new committee have a very inflated view of themselves and their own self importance.

We asked ourselves does being a member of the BRS bring that many benefits so as to make membership something we should consider. We have decided it does not and are looking elsewhere. Whilst we have never been members so our membership will never be missed I would have thought there are many members who will be seriously reviewing wether they wish to remain part of this organisation.

Ref msg 57/157 above. There will certainly be - 2 BRS members next year, whatever the 'new/old' committee decide.
