Why am I getting e-mails about new postings??

I have just received 3 emails informing me of new postings on threads I had looked at! Please please I do not want these it advises me I can unsubscribe but surely it would be better to subscribe to threads you are really really interested in than keep having to unsubscribe from ones to which you might have only a passing interest
