Knowing the awful reputation of civil servants in the TRNC I thought I would share our experience of one department today. I had to get my wife's name added to the car kocan (log book), as if not, in the event of my death, she would have no rights to the car. Initially, we went to the Department of Transport building. A very friendly, helpful, excellent English-speaking TRNC policeman redirected us to the right place. Found the office behind the old CTA building. Went in, 3 x choice ticket machine for what service was required - all in Turkish. Asked the lady behind the kiosk window - no English and we have limited Turkish. Showed her the blue log book, she got up from her desk and took us personally to an English-speaking civil servant, currently busy with another customer. Once finished with him, he asked us in perfect English how could he help - we explained the situation. He sent me back to the said lady to get a transfer form, talked us through its completion, explained where we could get the 10 TL Governmental stamp required and completed the whole process in less than 10 minutes at a cost of 200 TL. What a real pleasure. Well done!!!

Our friendly TC next door neighbour escourted us to do ours earlier this year ..
Cost was 124TL to have my wifes' name added to the logbook .. Why ?????

Did you have to show Muhtar's letters?

Yes, Muhtar letter proving residence, passport, driving licence, car docs and both have to be there.

124TL Why? Maybe you haven't been here very long, but it's all about making money.
Driving license 100TL per year. Residency permit250TLper year, it goes on and on.

All governmental charges have been raised across the board. I guess that is why I paid more, but who knows? It's all part of their game and there are no pockets on shrouds, so I cannot take anything with me when I move on.
