Directions
Could forum members please assist by giving me directions from Protaras to Kyrenia, including which Crossing Point to use. If you could include as much detail as possible inc landmarks etc it would be appreciated as the directions are for my family who will be holidaying in Protaras very soon and want to come across to spend a few days with us. We don't know Cyprus very well and the family don't know it at all as it will be the first time they have been here.

Have you tried https://www.google.com/maps ? , very straight forward and easy to use .

Hi ttoli thank you for your suggestion, I tried Google and not sure if I did it correctly but some of the directions were very difficult to understand, maybe we need the idiots guide for travel from Protaras to Kyrenia.
Any further suggestions or information would be appreciated.

Mags we have done this a few years ago and somebody on here will give you names and exact directions I think. For sure .
We came from Asia napa along the motorway and through dekihlia base ,then along to the village of peyia ( not exact spellings sorry ) these on your map will be near to famagusta .
Once crossed the main road to lefkosha and then kyrenia think around 45 to 1hour travelling time off too of head but we all drive differently .

There are a couple of routes. The one I am most familiar with and believe to be the easiest is via the Famagusta crossing.
Protaras is a long stringy town with little centres dotted along its length. From the resort areas come back from the coast and onto the main road, turn RIGHT. Carry on to a large traffic Island and turn LEFT.
Up the Hill and you will see a Metro supermarket followed by a large church on your left, take the next RIGHT after that.
Keep going .....around a bad bend to the left and to traffic lights near the Poilice Station, straight over.
You will come to a very large traffic Island, turn RIGHT and then drive through Dherynia and into Frenaros.
In Frenaros watch for a turn to the right signed Vrysoulles, there is a cafe on the corner but it can be difficult to spot. Turn RIGHT.
Carry on down this road past the smelly tip to the next T junction, turn RIGHT.
Follow the road to and through the British base at Ayios Nikolaos. This will bring you to the crossing.
Through the crossing and after a couple of miles you come to a traffic Island, turn LEFT.
Over 2 more small islands and onto a large Island with 3 palm trees, Turn LEFT onto the Nicosia highway.
Keep going on this highway until you get to the outskirts of Nicosia, you will see a large 1001 on your left and just before a traffic Island you will see a large supermarket Erulku. Turn RIGHT at that Island.
This road goes over the mountains, past Arapkoy and on into Girne.

On the main road behind the resort is KFC. Take the road next to KFC going inland and just follow the signs for Paralimni and then Larnaca Motorway. It does seem like you are in the back of beyond.
Onto the motorway and carry on to junction for Pyla.
Leave motorway and follow road through Pyla and onto the crossing.
Through the crossing, and just keep going straight ahead at every decision point (Islands and Junctions). This will lead you through, Dortyol, Gecitkale and over the mountains to Tatislu.
Once over the mountains take the LEFT turn signed for GIrne and just keep going
