Speeding fines

I am posting this on behalf of my speeding husband who had a speed camera flash him on the way to the airport at Ercan. To save me being stopped for the fine does anyone know how this can be paid if we come clean and present ourselves somewhere.

There are two things you can do, wait till you cross the border and they will give you a form to take to the police, who will issue your fine, or you can go into your local police station (you don't need to tell them about speeding) and give them your registration and ask if any fines have been issued against you, they will then check on the computer and inform you if you have, the speed cameras don't always work, so personally I would not come clean as don't forget it is not only a fine it is points too!

Please note that the system can take a while to register,also don,t present your uk licence because if you have an unknown accumulation of points which warrant a ban then your licence will be seized just take a photo copy

Got presented with ticket on arrival this May ,went to police in Girne was for speeding in April 2011 my 5th to date [Escape beach],amazing that my 1 ltr Vitz can exceed the speed limit. 130TL

Please note that if you get a fine after being stopped by the police (eg. hand-held radar) then you have only 15 days to pay after which the fine is automatically doubled. After 30 days you cannot pay and will be summoned to court for trial - the sentence will be at least the doubled fine and probably more.

I elected to go to court ith 14 speeding fines that I had alleegedly accrued in my GB registered car in 2011 ( I only ever received 1 speeding fine in 21 years in the UK). I asked the police to prove that I was travelling above the speed limit, for prove they must. Part of the evidence I asked them to provide was callibration reports for the speed cameras to show that they were capable of being accurate. Needless to say that the police was unable to provide any such thing, and all 14 cases were thrown out of court this January.

Yes I agree with fatouche, if you end up in court requesting calibration reports is worth a shot.

Additionally, a couple of years ago I received a fine because I exceeded the speed limit passing the Esentepe camera in a hire car I rented from the Greek side. I have never hired a Greek car I always hire from Baspinar or A1. Still had to pay 130TL though

Well they caught up with me and I had not one but two speeding tickets.My husband was the driver but since he works overseas and cannot present himself in the first 7 days I as the owner had to take 2 for the team.I got " my" first points ever on my licence after 29 years of clean driving and 2 fines.Safe to say our Skype chat that night was somewhat tense!Thanks fir the info.I think the motto here is slow down.

Don't worry you'll survive, these things happen in Toytown! I had a batch of four tickets to pay a year or so ago, the wife and I went 50-50 on them, all done in very good humour, the police at Girne think it's great sport and we all had a good laugh. I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Well done Fatouche for standing your ground, if I had 14 I might do the same but would stand less chance of success (for obvious reasons).

I was caught by a camera on the main road to Famagusta on Sunday 18th May ..
The "ticket" was hand delivered to our front door by a policeman on a scooter last Saturday 14th June ..
The speed was 82km in a 65km zone .. Fine was 156TL ..
Went to the police station & paid on Monday ..
Immediately went in the Radar office and gave my reg number .. Car clean said the officer, laughed & "added it is now" ..

I have doubts about the 'points on your licence' system. Others have posted that they have received points on their licence, but on each of the 4 occasions that I have lapsed, my wife or I have gone to Girne Police Station and paid the fine. We have never been asked to produce a licence, or given any indication that we were going to get 'points'. Can someone with points please explain how they knew they had received them?

If you get a speeding fine, the points will show on the computer .. Amass 100 points in 12 months & it is automatic ban ..
40 km over the permitted speed will gain you 50 points .. 2 of these in 12 months & it's wave bye bye to your licence ..
