Metal paints like Hammerite and Polisan
First all the rails were not properly upright. When we complained he said 'no problem' (as they do) and cut them all and corrected them. We had to go out the next day and when we came back found that some of the units were not the right lenght and he had added bits and it looked terrible. My husband then had to get him to change that so it looked ok. They also had a couple of very young lads paint everything, half of it done when we came back. And thats the biggest problem. They put the paint (thinned down, so it looked like water) on without cleaning all the welders dust and other dirt off, also no primer or undercoat. The paint they used is FENOSEN synthetic paint. I checked it and it is just ordinary indoor/outdoor paint suitable for wood and metal.
So what do we do now?? Also keeping in mind that we live in Dipkarpaz, no fancy equipment here.
As we only gave them less than half the money, we feel we still have the upper hand.
We can make them correct it, but we want to be sure it is done right. I have used Polisan and I think its like Hammerite and very good. But can it be put on ordinary paint?? Especially as its only just been done??
Any thoughts would be appreciated

I would suggest only using Hamerite some paints run when it rains and will stain the tiles.

Translated reads "Hammerite must be applied to a clean surface, which is whether or not defatted.
Not only wash with water but always rub with thinners. Emulsion paint or
Acrylic can certainly not simply be painted over, a lot of fun to be removed before it. -

Rabbit - are you Renelapin?

Far too hot to paint at the moment , I'd leave it a few months , paint won't adhere correctly

No matter how much money you pay these idiots you will always get a lash-up. Suggest you cut your losses and dispense with their services.

The problem is they don't galvanise them either ,they just spray black.
I hamerited my railings after they had been up two years they were rough and they were all rusting coming through .
I hammerited ( smooth ) and they never broke through in the 4 years I had property .
Infact quick wash at beginnings of they year and they were like new .
Ironically in UK this last week I have done mine there .
Straight over the black paint and look superb ,far better than the dull Matt black finish .
I would just bite the bullet and do them next march or something ..get the raid on and do one section per week lol

Re: Metal paints like Hammerite and Polisan
Thanks everyone!!!!
Thanks also Kaiserphil for translating!! I think rabbit must know that I'm German!!
I did look at the Hammerite and the Polisan websites, and you are quite right, ttoli and kavenkoy, Hammerite and Polisan do say its best not to paint above 25°. I hadn't paid enough attention to that
It's best to get as much info as poss. I think we have not paid too much yet, if we want to cut our losses with these people. We used them because they did another job, and it was ok, but now there is a different worker and..................
